Heh. That's actually how I started reading Naruto as well. askerian, whose Gundam Wing fanfiction I like, is writing a Naruto story and I ended up tracking down the manga online to see what the canon series was like. (I have yet to figure out a way to watch the anime, since I'm limited to public computers.)

Several volumes of the manga are generally available in major chain bookstores, and you can find the newer chapters at www.narutofan.com.
