I would lightly maim someone in order to have the financial freedom to indulge in an extended gothic swoon... though honestly, I'd probably get bored after a month, tops. But ye gods and little fishes, that would be cathartic while it lasted!

That sounds like an excellent premise for a standalone fantasy novel! Or perhaps a series of fantasy mysteries, where Our Heroes get reluctantly entangled in various flavors of contemporary draconic nonsense while trying to research much more interesting historical nonsense. :)
