Quote from "Connections," the newest story in
sunhawk16's Ion Arc:
When you create, whatever you create, you are putting a small piece of yourself into it. Doesn’t matter if you are knitting hats, or painting portraits. Doesn’t matter if you are crafting dolls, or carving wood. Each piece contains just a tiny sliver of your soul, and it’s a damn scary thing thinking about tossing that out there for the general population to see. Like each and every one of those paintings and sketches were my children, and I was letting them go out into the wide, mean world alone.
If you don’t get that part... I can’t explain it any better. Maybe it’s just something you have to feel for yourself.
Even if you don't know anything about Gundam Wing, you should read the Ion Arc as an example of brilliant first-person narrative, sustained in a consistent 'voice' over years of a character's life. Sunhawk is... very much not afraid to face the darker parts of her Duo's past and psyche, and these are absolutely gripping stories, filled with real life issues and the 'feel' of a solid world along with the occasional adventures. Also, beyond the first two stories, they're all set post-series. Even for the first two, you don't need to know any background beyond the basics: futuristic world with space colonies, middle of a war, 5 teenagers fighting as sacrificial guerrillas/terrorists. Duo will explain everything else.
