4 unrelated things: "Secrets," Femgenficathon, canceled visits, imaginary story meme

1. Tonight I wrote a bit more of "Secrets" -- chapter 14 is now at 10,650 words, give or take some punctuation. (It will never cease to annoy me that MS Word reads a dash (--) as a word rather than a punctuation mark. It doesn't matter much in short fic, but for anything over a thousand words or so -- and especially for HP fic, where I use a more liberal hand with dashes as a vague attempt to imitate Rowling's style -- it throws my counts off by up to a hundred words.)

2. In other writing news, I currently have two completely different attempts at answering my Femgenficathon prompt (one of which is more or less complete in a bad draft at 1,900 words), but last week I had the brilliant and evil idea of combining them into a two-narrative time-split story, and that makes so much more sense than continuing either alone that I am resolved to make the attempt. The thing is, I need to hammer out a scene-by-scene outline, to make sure I keep both storylines running at the same pace and don't have to pad or trim one to make it interweave properly with the other. And I do not have the mental focus to do that after an 8.5 hour shift at work.

So I am going to do that on Friday, probably. (And if it doesn't work out, I will throw up my hands in defeat; clean up the bad draft of the story about Jadis, the Lady of the Green Kirtle, and the fall of the Tree of Protection; and set the story about Jadis, her sister, and the destruction of Charn aside for later.)

3. My mom was going to visit me this weekend, but she came down with something vaguely flu-like and the visit is therefore off. *sigh*

4. Meme time! Stolen from [livejournal.com profile] animus_wyrmis:

Give me the title of a story I've never written, and feedback telling me what you liked best about it, and I will tell you any of: the first sentence, the last sentence, the thing that made me want to write it, the biggest problem I had while writing it, why it almost never got posted, the scene that hit the cutting room floor but that I wish I'd been able to salvage, or something else that I want readers to know.
