Well, I can't say specifically in his case - maybe he does, but just more rarely. But I have noticed that for some people, the outside perspective (Doylist, if you will) isn't just one way to engage with a book, to step in and out of, but the primary or even only way. I suppose it's the Verfremdungseffekt in action.
