I wonder, also, how much of this is related to the difference between being a writer/storyteller and being a more passive consumer of other people's stories. If one has the storytelling bug (in addition to the 'let's pretend' bug that everyone seems to have), one is more likely to be pulling stories apart and thinking about them in depth.
