Actually, not knowing Inception timelines shouldn't be much of an obstacle, since 1) the movie provides next to no backstory for anyone but Dom, and 2) I am mangling timelines to hell and back anyway. :-) For example, in the movie, Philippa and James are Dom and Mal's kids, but here they are Dom and Mal's distant descendants. Likewise, in the movie Miles and his wife (who seems to be named Marie) are Mal's parents; here, they are also Dom and Mal's descendants.
Aside from Dom & Mal (and Marie & Miles, technically), there are no romantic relationships in the story yet. Should I start putting an "eventual pairings will probably be..." notice at the top of new parts? There are at least two romances that I have plans to develop over the course of the story.
"I haven't heard word one," is an idiomatic expression, sometimes used for emphasis instead of the standard "I haven't heard one word" construction. I'll change it, though; there's no point being confusing when I don't have to be. :-)
