maybe it's just sleep-deprivation...

Liz attempts to write 'Tame,' the follow-up to 'First Steps' and 'Tension, Before'

Naruto: *points out that since Sasuke is currently unconscious, it would be pretty hard to use him as a POV character*

Liz: That's a good point, but I could just skip to when you make camp and Sakura lets him wake up.

Naruto: Yeah, yeah, but that's stupid. And you let Sakura-chan and the bastard go all thinky and stuff -- you're just scared you can't write me, aren't you? *folds hands behind head and grins*

Liz: *grrr* And just WHO has been writing all your dialogue and actions so far, both here and in 'Apartment Manager'?

Naruto: Yeah, when I'm SIX. You just can't think like me and you don't want people to know you're not as cool as I am! Scaredy-cat!

Liz: *whips out giant fan and bashes Naruto over the head* We'll see who's cool!

At which point I was promptly distracted by a plot bunny for a post-series Black Jewels fanfic, but I think I exorcized that idea enough (with an outline and a couple half-assed scenes) that it won't bother me anymore. And I DID get about 500 words out of Naruto afterward, so all is well. :-)

...

*examines above exchange*

...

Oh god, I'm going nuts and turning into one of those psycho writers who have conversations with "muses" and are utterly stupid and self-absorbed and have no appreciation for the real craft of writing and I hate them and...

Right.

I think I'm just freaking slightly because I've never had a male character from somebody else's work move into my head and claim house space. I'm used to girls -- I mean, Ginny's been hanging around for ages -- but this is a little different.

Or maybe I'm just treating Naruto more as a real person instead of a character. Which is damned weird, since I'm not writing him any differently from my other characters. *shrug* Eh, I've never claimed to understand my subconscious mind.

But if he doesn't sit down, shut up, and behave himself, I will have to take Steps.
