Yeah, this is not good design. It turns out I was able to delete the spam via the comment notification in my LJ inbox. rthstewart also suggested that it might be possible to do the same via the email notification of the comment, but I tend to delete those emails as soon as I receive them and anyway, I shouldn't NEED to be using workarounds. *headdesk*
