Set-up often has to get a little omniscient unless you're going for the instant-immersion-with-resulting-instant-questions approach; I think this strikes a reasonable balance. It sounds very Legendary and yet every line of it is calling legends into question... and yet the legend seems to be playing out in some form anyway. I like the layering of that, and the complexity it sets your main characters up for.
