I tend to go with the theory that Irrylath wound up accidentally immortal -- or at least immortal-ish -- because it's simultaneously the worst fate I can wish on him and a way to make potential post-canon shipping slightly less traumatically awful due to differences in lifespan. But in this particular potential future, he and Aeriel left each other determinedly alone after the trilogy (because DUTY, and also I guess on the theory that a clean break would hurt less in the long run) so Aeriel genuinely has no clue what did or didn't become of him once he returned to Avaric with Sabr.
