Thanks! Some of the fine detail of the frames got lost under the new paint -- the original paint was much thinner and more metallic, almost like actual super-fine gold foil, and the frames have a bunch of super-thin grooves to show it off -- but I think the trade is worth it to clean up sixty to seventy years of fading and flaking.
I think my mom's current plan is to take the last picture to a local frame shop and get their advice, because the backing is pretty chewed up where the wire tore loose.
