"The Transient and the Eternal" parts 11-14

Apparently I forgot to post a notification when I stuck parts 11 and 12 up a while ago. Oops. Anyway, parts 11-14 are now up on AO3. Parts 11, 12, and 14 only have a few very minor changes, but I made heavy tweaks to Kira's relationship advice in part 13, to reflect the fact that he likes and respects Sara as a person.

The Transient and the Eternal: Stop That - Kira takes Setsuna and Sara into the city to forget about their parents' impending divorce. (2,950 words)

The Transient and the Eternal: Touch - Some days Kira feels both more and less human than usual. (300 words)

The Transient and the Eternal: Fever - Kira tries to get drunk, with uncertain results (1,325 words)

The Transient and the Eternal: Bloodlines - Kira tells Kato the truth. This is a mistake. Unethical use of magic. (1,475 words)

General warnings for Angel Sanctuary apply: namely, that the canon is built of WTF and incest (and very pretty art), so please proceed with caution. :)

"The Transient and the Eternal" parts 9 & 10

I'm going to keep posting these for a while, though probably not on any actual schedule. Anyway, parts 7 and 8 are now up on AO3. Part 9 has minor edits from its beta draft version. Part 10 has more significant changes, particularly to the concluding paragraphs.

The Transient and the Eternal: Kisses - Kira and Setsuna discuss a theoretical extra-credit science project. (1,275 words)

The Transient and the Eternal: Irritating People - Setsuna has a girlfriend. Sara and Kira hate her. (1,400 words)

I'm going to keep posting these for a while, though probably not on any actual schedule. Anyway, parts 7 and 8 are now up on AO3. They both have some edits from the beta drafts on my journal -- part 7 more so than part 8.

The Transient and the Eternal: Time - Jibril in heaven, watching Alexiel's executions. Off-screen murder, torture, and rape. (1,275 words)

The Transient and the Eternal: Hugs - Setsuna introduces Kira to Sara. (625 words)

General warnings for Angel Sanctuary apply: namely, that the canon is built of WTF and incest (and very pretty art), so please proceed with caution. :)

I'm going to keep posting these for a while, though probably not on any actual schedule. Anyway, parts 5 and 6 are now up on AO3. They both have minor edits from the beta drafts on my journal.

The Transient and the Eternal: Love Bites - Alexiel introduces Nanatsusaya to Jibril. Dubious power dynamics and obsession. (2,200 words)

The Transient and the Eternal: Naptime - After the Second Holy War, Nanatsusaya wanders the earth. War and implied murder. (700 words)

I'm going to keep posting these for a while, though probably not on any actual schedule. Anyway, parts 3 and 4 are now up on AO3. Part 3 has some tiny edits from the beta draft on my journal.

The Transient and the Eternal: Get Out - Jibril delivers a message to Alexiel in Eden. Mild gore. (1,275 words)

The Transient and the Eternal: Giving Up - Alexiel and Lucifer flee Atziluth. (2,500 words)

General warnings for Angel Sanctuary apply: namely, that the canon is built of WTF and incest (and very pretty art), so please proceed with caution. :)

"The Transient and the Eternal" parts 1 & 2

It is once again internet housekeeping time!

In other words, I decided to start tidying up the extant parts of "The Transient and the Eternal" and posting them on AO3. If nothing else, that will let me cross an item off my long-running to-do list, and in the best case scenario it might inspire me to finish the remaining five themes. So in that spirit, parts 1 and 2 are now up!

The Transient and the Eternal: Alone - Alexiel in Eden, contemplating her bargain. (1,100 words)

The Transient and the Eternal: Forbidden - Jibril speaks with Lucifel shortly after his meeting with God. (1,500 words)

General warnings for Angel Sanctuary apply: namely, that the canon is built of WTF and incest (and very pretty art), so please proceed with caution. :)

[Fic] "The Transient and the Eternal: Stop that" -- Angel Sanctuary

I'm doing [livejournal.com profile] thirtyforthree again, this time for Kira Sakuya/Mudo Setsuna/Mudo Sara from Kaori Yuki's Angel Sanctuary. There will be spoilers in nearly every theme -- given the characters, it's nearly impossible to avoid them! -- and a lot of potentially objectionable content. This is because the source manga has a lot of potentially objectionable content. If incest squicks you, or you know you'll be bothered by some unusual and often negative interpretations of Judeo-Christian theology, you probably won't want to read any of these stories.

With that said...

Theme: #15 - Stop that
Warnings: spoilers!
Notes: This fic is set pre-manga, between Irritating people (in which Sara and Kira hate Setsuna's girlfriend) and Touch (in which Kira feels less human than usual). In this installment, Kira takes Setsuna and Sara into the city to forget about their parents' impending divorce. (2,950 words)

The Transient and the Eternal: Stop that )

My outline for this fic was originally two scenes longer and included an interlude with a jerk hitting on Sara (after which both she and Setsuna angsted a bunch about their forbidden love), but I figured I'd leave things on a slightly less melodramatic note. The photograph described in the text comes from near the end of vol. 3 of the manga.

Only five segments of this project left!

[Fic] "The Transient and the Eternal: Giving up" -- Angel Sanctuary

Theme: #3 - Giving up
Warnings: spoilers!
Notes: This fic is set way the hell pre-manga, and is the bridge between Get out (in which Jibril visits Alexiel in Eden) and Love bites (in which Jibril makes a bargain with Nanatsusaya). As always with this project, I am assuming Jibril was a lot more active in protesting the state of heaven than Raphael gives her credit for. (2,500 words)

The Transient and the Eternal: Giving up )

I have no idea why this fic, of all things, chose tonight to wrap itself up, but I'm not complaining. Writing is writing, and now I only have six more pieces to go until I am done with this project. *crosses fingers*

Okay. Sleep now.

[Fic] "The Transient and the Eternal: If only" -- Angel Sanctuary

Theme: #6 - If only
Warnings: spoilers!
Notes: This fic is set post-manga, in March 2038. Sara is 54 and Setsuna 55. At some point in the past decade, they moved back from Nagasaki to Tokyo since their parents are both dead now (father from a heart attack, mother from pancreatic cancer) and they're not that worried about hiding anymore. In terms of internal series continuity, it falls between Babies and "If it wasn't you..."

I wrote the first half of this story in 2008 and the second half in 2011, but only got around to the last few paragraphs tonight. I therefore suspect the ending is a bit rushed; if you have any suggestions for smoothing it out, please tell me! (1,900 words)

The Transient and the Eternal: If only )

---------------------------------------------

There. That is my token gesture toward productivity for today. (And my choice of story to finish has no connection whatsoever to my approaching 30th birthday, certainly not, I can't imagine why you might think so! *overly dramatic shock*)

Tomorrow I must buckle down and actually work on my poor neglected Narnia Big Bang. I know how to fix the current scene I stalled on, and while I am not quite sure how to get from Rabadash-makes-Ilgamuth-buy-a-spare-horse through the rather nebulously outlined war section to the closing scenes in Tashbaan (which are already written and just need a little polishing once I know what the immediate lead-in will be), I am sure things will shake out in the actual writing. I have done most of the necessary world-building in my head over the past month while I was making no progress whatsoever in terms of word count.

[Fic] "The Transient and the Eternal: Babies" -- Angel Sanctuary

I'm doing [livejournal.com profile] thirtyforthree again, this time for Kira Sakuya/Mudo Setsuna/Mudo Sara from Kaori Yuki's Angel Sanctuary. This is because the source manga has a lot of potentially objectionable content. If incest squicks you, or you know you'll be bothered by some unusual and often negative interpretations of Judeo-Christian theology, you probably won't want to read any of these stories.

With that said...

Theme: #8 - Babies
Warnings: spoilers! Also, some depiction of the fallout of an acrimonious divorce, especially its effect on a child.
Notes: This fic is set post-manga, in autumn of 2015; Setsuna is 32 and Sara is 31. It falls between "Clouds" and "If Only," neither of which are finished yet. (Possibly more helpfully, it falls after Fluffy Things, in which Setsuna and Sara assume a second set of false identities and move to Nagasaki.)

I originally meant this to be more humorous, but I got sidetracked by the philosophical complexities of reincarnation as proposed (in a maddening muddle) by Kaori Yuki, and then it took me forever and a day to wind the narrative back to the point of the prompt, as you can tell by the wordcount. I would also like to note that no actual babies appear in this story. *wry* (6,000 words)

[Fic] "The Transient and the Eternal: Snowfall" -- Angel Sanctuary

Theme: #11 - Snowfall
Warnings: spoilers!
Notes: The main plot of this ficlet is set post-manga, in very late 2007. The flashbacks run from shortly after the First Holy War to shortly before Setsuna's birth, and are not all in chronological order. Setsuna is 24; Sara is 23. This falls between Talking Over Distance and "Looking" (which I have not yet finished).

It took me about three years to write this, mostly because I was never quite sure where it was going. I am still not sure it all hangs together logically, but whatever. (6,900 words)

The Transient and the Eternal: Snowfall )

---------------------------------------------

In other news, I have obviously missed my posting date for [livejournal.com profile] lgbtfest. *sigh* I will try to get the story finished this week and post it next Wednesday, since Wednesdays are amnesty posting days this year. (The story has gone annoyingly political on me... by which I mean that I want to be writing about sexual orientations but the characters are determined to talk about inheritance rules and the political implications of tangled Ymris genealogy and marriage games. *headdesk* Astrin, for my sake, please stop being so private and just tell Rork your main reason for remaining single instead of arguing all the ancillary justifications!)

[Fic] "The Transient and the Eternal: Far Away" -- Angel Sanctuary

Theme: #20 - Far away
Warnings: spoilers!
Notes: This ficlet is set way, way post-manga, after Setsuna and Sara eventually die, with all attendant spoilers. It was meant to be a long, involved tale of heavenly politics, but Jibril put her foot down and went off in a different direction, and I ended up at roughly the same conclusion minus several thousand words of plot.

(I am also minus several thousand words of justification for the eventual threesome, which I have tried to make up for a little bit, but I think I may end up writing a sidestory at some point to explain that mess. Or I may shoehorn some of it into "If It Wasn't You..." in which case I will have to come back and edit this fic slightly.)

Anyway. Story! (1,800 words)

PM is on vacation this week, so I am nominally in charge of the store. Yay? Also, I have a dental appointment this coming Wednesday, and I can't remember if it's just a checkup or if it's for my last set of fillings. Quite possibly it is both. *sigh*

[Fic] "The Transient and the Eternal: Tattoo" -- Angel Sanctuary

I'm doing [livejournal.com profile] thirtyforthree again, this time for Kira Sakuya/Mudo Setsuna/Mudo Sara from Kaori Yuki's Angel Sanctuary. There will be spoilers in nearly every theme -- given the characters, it's nearly impossible to avoid them! -- and a lot of potentially objectionable content. This is because the source manga has a lot of potentially objectionable content. If incest squicks you, or you know you'll be bothered by some strange and often negative interpretations of Judeo-Christian theology, you probably won't want to read any of these stories.

With that said...

Theme: #29 - Tattoo
Warnings: spoilers!
Notes: This ficlet is set way, way post-manga, well after Setsuna and Sara eventually die, with all attendant spoilers. (Randomly, this is both theme #29 and the twenty-ninth story in my chronological sequence. So by this point, the threesome-of-sorts is pretty well established.)

The Transient and the Eternal: Tattoo )

---------------------------------------------

That was kind of fun to write. I'd had the basic idea set for a few years, but it never really clicked to life in my mind until this afternoon, whereupon I wrote the ficlet in about an hour. *shrug* Inspiration is weird.

In unrelated real life news, today it snowed in Ithaca! So I took my winter coat out of storage... and discovered that the zipper had broken. Last year, the pull tab fell off the part that slides up and down and locks or unlocks the teeth, but that was easy to fix; I just stuck a key-ring through the little hole. This year, the whole locking apparatus fell off, so I am left with nothing but two rows of naked zipper teeth.

Bah.

Fortunately, the coat also has snaps, so I was able to brave the snow and buy groceries, but I have called a tailor and plan to take my coat in to get the zipper replaced on Monday morning, because the snaps alone will not keep out the winter wind.

[Fic] "The Transient and the Eternal: Fluffy things" -- Angel Sanctuary

I'm doing [livejournal.com profile] thirtyforthree again, this time for Kira Sakuya/Mudo Setsuna/Mudo Sara from Kaori Yuki's Angel Sanctuary. There will be spoilers in nearly every theme -- given the characters, it's nearly impossible to avoid them! -- and a lot of potentially objectionable content. This is because the source manga has a lot of potentially objectionable content. If incest squicks you, or you know you'll be bothered by some extremely strange and often negative interpretations of Judeo-Christian theology, you probably won't want to read any of these stories.

With that said...

Theme: #27 - Fluffy things
Warnings: spoilers!
Notes: This ficlet is set post-manga -- in 2008, actually -- with all the attendant spoilers.

For the curious, the mortal post-manga timeline goes Remembering, Hidden, Surprise, Talking over distance, "Snowfall," "Looking," "Dreaming," Fluffy things, "Clouds," "Babies," and "If only." This story is fairly heavy on internal continuity -- it references the Sailor Pluto joke from "Surprise," Sara and Setsuna's conversation from "Hidden," and, of course, Kira and Setsuna's 'experiment' from Kisses, a mortal pre-manga ficlet.

Belial is referred to as Mad Hatter, and 'he,' since that's how Setsuna first met hir. (There's another reason as well, but that explanation is for another ficlet. *grin*)

The Transient and the Eternal: Fluffy things )

---------------------------------------------

These past few weeks, I've been teetering on the edge of a blue funk. I know how to head them off these days -- no more lost weeks for me! -- but it does mean that my sleep schedule goes all to hell. I start looking for something meaningful to latch onto, something to do. I know that creating something -- writing something, making something new -- is one of the best ways to drag myself back up, but I feel empty and flat and dull, and listless, and it's so hard to make the words come.

I've been reading a lot instead, mostly Highlander fanfiction -- I've noticed that I have a tendency to fall into obsessive behavior when I'm trying to avoid a funk (or when I gave in to a funk, in the old days), and I think it's part of that same scrabble to find a handhold and climb back out of my own head.

...

Bah.

I took a long walk this evening, which is another way I keep myself from falling. I went to Ithaca Falls and watched the water for a while. One reason I love living in Ithaca and do not want to move is that I don't know many other places with such easy access to running water and waterfalls, and I find running water immensely soothing and uplifting. Even in the depths of a funk, I could usually find an hour or two of peace and connection after spending ten to thirty minutes just watching a waterfall.

It's the easiest meditation exercise I know of.

[Fic] "The Transient and the Eternal: Love bites" -- Angel Sanctuary

I'm doing [livejournal.com profile] thirtyforthree again, this time for Kira Sakuya/Mudo Setsuna/Mudo Sara from Kaori Yuki's Angel Sanctuary. There will be spoilers in nearly every theme -- given the characters, it's nearly impossible to avoid them! -- and a lot of potentially objectionable content. With that said...

Theme: #5 - Love bites
Warnings: spoilers!
Note: This ficlet is set pre-manga, shortly before the Second Holy War. It falls between "Giving up" (which is not yet finished or posted, sorry) and Naptime. Again, I'm assuming that Jibril did more to protest the state of heaven than just give Sevothtarte the cold shoulder and weep for the Grigori -- anyone who reincarnated with the sort of bloody-minded determination Sara possesses can't have been just the decorative prude Raphael describes. (Besides, Raphael is fucked up and biased. *grin*)

This is because the source manga has a lot of potentially objectionable content. If incest squicks you, or you know you'll be bothered by some strange and/or negative interpretations of Judeo-Christian theology, you're probably better off not reading these stories.

With that said...

Theme: #10 - Rent
Warnings: spoilers!
Note: This ficlet is set just a few months pre-manga, in late March or early April of 1999. I am assuming, despite their almost total lack of canon interaction, that Sara and Kira were friends of sorts, though not nearly as close to each other as Setsuna was to either of them. (This is based on the familiarity of their brief interaction in vol. 1, and the way Sara instinctively denies, much later on, that Kira would ever betray Setsuna -- to me, that implies that she knows and trusts him.)

Theme: #21 - Naptime
Warnings: spoilers!
Note: This ficlet is set pre-manga, during and immediately after Alexiel's rebellion, i.e. the Second Holy War. It's one story, but it's told as a series of seven drabbles (strict form, 100 words exactly), mostly because I like to play around with structural forms, but also because seven is a mystically significant number. *grin*

For those curious about timeline issues, "Naptime" occurs around 300 BCE, as Jomon culture gave way to Yayoi. Irrigated rice farming seems to have reached Japan around that time, as well as metalworking -- first bronze, and then iron. People lived in settled villages and the islands were divided into a patchwork of small, independent principalities, whose rulers did collect some form of tribute or taxes. Rosiel's prison is in the greater Tokyo area; Yayoi culture seems to have either originated from or first arrived on Kyushu, and then spread to Honshu, Shikoku, and Hokkaido. Clapping hands in worship is an ancient habit, dating back to either Yayoi or Jomon culture.

Theme: #19 - Time
Warnings: spoilers!
Note: This ficlet is set pre-manga, during Alexiel's cycle of reincarnations. I haven't written this particular incarnation yet in "Debts," which is why I'm very vague about the historical setting (and even so, I've probably gotten things a bit wrong, since I haven't done proper research yet). I'm also trying to explain the inconsistencies about Alexiel's guardian angel/s, and speculate on why it took Nanatsusaya so long to give Alexiel one clean death.

Note: This ficlet is set directly post-manga, and I've taken some liberties with Lucifer's character as compared to his portrayal in vols. 15-19... but given his thoughts on a couple occasions in vol. 20, I think I have justification for my interpretation.
