update
Gave up and wilted across my bed for several hours, during which time I had weird nightmares about running from evil magical people out to kill any children with hints of magic. Had to catch trains at crazy hours, and hide out down a mine shaft that inexplicably turned into an army recruiting station.
Was recruited, given a red locker and a computer, and told that based on my arrival -- on an out-of-control mine cart -- I would never EVER be allowed to pilot or drive anything and would have to do desk work.
Also, I had a metallic silver chicken as a pet. Go figure.
Have decided to become nocturnal until such time as the weather cools off. Will hopefully get more done, and avoid more dreams like that.

Worst example off the top of my head: several years back, during a heat wave in which our air conditioner had temporarily died, I had a dream that I was playing bridge. (Yes, by myself; it was a dream.) And I lost the hand. So this voice from on high told me in detail what I had done wrong, and how to fix it next time. The cards were dealt out again, exactly the same as the last hand, and I followed the voice's instructions. And lost.
Repeat ad infinitum. Not particularly scary, per se, but I was just about screaming when I finally woke up from that one, just out of sheer frustration and humiliation.
Heat waves are evil.

Sounds like Groundhogs Day, starring Charles Goren :))
