I wrote "Definitions of Romance" because I'd gotten absolutely sick of One!True!Love and because none of the marriages in my family look anything like romance novels.
Not even my Uncle Charles and Aunt Ji-lan, who actually kind of have a romance novel plotline: they liked each other, but her parents arranged a marriage and she felt she had to respect that; she had a kid and later divorced; they met again and still liked each other; and they married and had another kid together. (Swear to god, I'm not making that up.) But they are so Not!Romance that it's actually kind of funny.
