I notice, from lj posts, that it's the... third aniversary of 9/11.
I dunno. Is there something wrong with me that I never remember things like this until someone reminds me?
Actually, I didn't even know on the original day until about 1pm. See, I got up for an 8am chem lab, from which I went straight to a German class that technically started at 11:40, twenty minutes before my lab ended, so I didn't get to talk to anyone, just sat down and joined the literature discussion.
After class, Prof. Adelson was talking to a girl whose family was in the city, and I was thinking, "Flood? Hurricane? Catastrophic blackout?"
Then they told me about the planes and the towers.
*shakes head* That didn't really sink in for several days. And I was honestly more worried about my uncle down in DC, who got stranded on his way home from work.
I dunno. Yeah, it was awful. So are a lot of things. And there really isn't much to say other than, "Yes, I know, it's awful and it hurts."
And the world goes on.
It usually does.

Have been working on chapter 8 of "Secrets." Have also been tossing around plot ideas for "Strange Likenesses." After AnneU planted the idea about Harry's scar being a rune, I did some of my own research.
She says it could be Eihwaz. I personally think it looks more like Sigel, but it isn't exactly either. And while Eihwaz is about transformation, death/rebirth, and protection from evil magic (sometimes), Sigel is about victory and the sun and the power of light. So both work, just in different ways.
*rubs hands gleefully* I'm having so much FUN with this story! I should write stuff like this more often, where I can be as nasty as I damn well want to. Of course, sooner or later I'll probably recoil in disgust at channelling serial killer sociopaths and letting them corrupt innocent little boys, but for now? It's a DAMN good way to get rid of frustration at still being unemployed.

Am sick. I have one of those nasty runny noses that only runs internally, down the back of my throat, thus giving me a sore throat, a frog voice, and a queasy stomach. Am also tired and drained, which is par for the course when I'm ill.
Not cool. Not cool at all.

Actually, I've seen some additional rune translations on a different website. Now Harry's scar looks more like SOWILO to me - is that the same as Sigel? See http://www.sunnyway.com/runes/meanings.html - Sowilo looks like the reverse of Eihwaz. Though it's possible Harry's scar is Eihwaz reversed, which doesn't have such a positive meaning :( I'm going to do a story involving Harry's scar too; that drabble I wrote might or might not be a part of it. I'm glad the discussion got your creative juices flowing. It did that for me too :)

And neither Eihwaz nor Sigel can be reversed in rune casting, because of their particular type of symmetry. What they are, really, is more mirror images of each other.
I am having way too much fun with this idea of a runic scar, especially when linked to Harry's survival of the Killing Curse and his connection with Voldemort. Good luck with your story!
