Liz goes on and on and on about her fanfiction novel...

Have been editing chapter 7 of "Secrets" as per beta comments. I love my betas. They fix so many of my dumb mistakes! They make me actually think about things I'd taken for granted, which helps fine-tune future plot points. They tell me my chapters are decent, and then tell me how to make them better.

*sends out massive waves of beta love*

I also spent the evening editing chapters 4-6 of "Secrets," because I can and because Lasair raised a valid criticism of the way I'd been handling the how-Ginny-perceives-Tom issue -- I took that into account when writing chapter 7, and had to go tweak previous chapters to mesh with it. And there was the whole search-and-replace I had to do on all instances of Ginny's full name.

See, Ginny introduces herself to the diary as Ginevra Weasley, because she wants to put her full name down at the beginning -- and Tom picks up on that and doesn't call her by nickname. Except before JKR revealed "Ginevra," I was using "Virginia," which a) I think is a nicer name in general, and b) has much more useful connotations in my story. While Ginevra brings to mind Arthurian parallels, Virginia is just perfect for a well-meaning girl who gets into a Bad Situation. Alas, for canon revelations that forced my hand and made me lose my wonderful connotations. *deep sigh*

So as long as I was going through all the chapters fixing the names, I decided to edit them as well. Because, as I said, I can. Because there were little glitches that drove me buggy when I reread the chapters at FA. Because now that I know some of what happens after I initially wrote the original chapters, I can make the story as a whole fit together better. And because I'm just a perfectionist and I felt like it.

The last time I tried submitting a revised version of chapter 1 (to include italics, because when I first wrote it, I had to submit documents to FA as Notebook files instead of Word files), it didn't go through. I've already submitted the revised chapters 1-3, and I'll see how that goes before I send off 4-6.

Chapter 7 is waiting on Cat, who has a madly busy life -- works 10 hours a day, 6 days a week, and is learning Latin on the side -- so I'm not sure when I'll be able to submit it to FA. But it should be soonish.

And as I have rambled far too long for anyone to still be interested, I shall stop now.
