wherein Liz has vague thoughts about Remix

Assignments for Remix Redux 12 went out on Sunday, and... I actually got assigned to the person I half-suspected I'd be assigned to, given that I specifically changed my offers (what I'm willing to write) based on some requests (what people had already written) that were sadly unmatched. And I think I am pretty much stuck with that one matching fandom, since I am either completely unfamiliar with my remixee's other fandoms, or know them only through vague internet osmosis. (Well, and there's a couple Yuletide things, but it's really hard to remix stories that already seem perfect and complete in themselves, you know?)

Fortunately I do like the matching fandom, and I've already marked out a few possible stories to play with after a quick read-through of my remixee's archive. Now I get to ignore the whole business for at least two weeks, because I am the Queen of Procrastination! :-)

This is my general pattern for fic exchanges: get assignment, do some research/planning, tentatively pick a story idea, and then drop the whole thing until maybe two weeks before it's due. *sigh* Oh well, it hasn't failed me yet...

Hmmm... I agree Yuletide fics (also Femgen) seem really intimidating to remix!

I definitely do the "researching a story" to procrastinate writing too. Oh boy! Excited to be able to do remix again though.

I think it may be because Yuletide fandoms are so tiny that Yuletide fics kind of try to be THE exemplar of a certain aspect of that fandom, instead of being one of a thousand iterations of certain tropes/plots/whatever like the majority of fics in bigger fandoms. It's more of an, "I will carve a tiny and perfect cameo jewel that will invoke rapture and awe in all who behold it!" situation instead of an, "I'll toss a bunch of random stuff into a wok and see what happens, hahaha, somebody's bound to eat it even if it tastes kinda weird," scenario. Or something like that, I dunno, I'm probably not making much sense.

Anyway, yay remixing! :-)
