I wish my computer was better at indicating that it's downloading updates, since that tends to reduce my internet connection to a snail's pace because all the bandwidth is already in use. *sigh* On the bright side, I think it's done for now, which means I may be able to actually update my antivirus program instead of having its update attempts stall out yet again because the connection is too slow.

(I also backed up all my documents, music, and pictures onto my external hard drive, which I do not do nearly as often as I ought to. Ah well.)

Anyway, it's about 90 degrees, there's a chance of severe thunderstorms all afternoon and evening, and I have a mile to walk home from the public library where I am currently typing these words. I am tired of summer already and it isn't even officially here yet. Blegh.

I told my laptop to update and then shut down, after which I said to heck with it and walked into town where there is both free internet and air conditioning. I mean, I have an AC at home, but it's not nearly as strong and I feel silly turning it on when I can keep my apartment under 80 just by judicious use of curtains and fans, so...

Eh. Exercise is good for the soul, right? (And I really want a thunderstorm to roll through. I love them SO MUCH...)

Yes, the chill air and pressure drop after a thunderstorm is like nothing else. Over on this coast, we don't get the sudden chill; some website once explained to me why our thunderstorms were different (not caused by cold fronts) but I forget.

A thunderstorm did, in fact, materialize, shortly before 7pm. It rained like the wrath of god for about fifteen minutes, after which it settled down to a mere hard rain... and then the power went out for three hours. So I opened all my windows and took a long nap, because it was still too hot for reading by candlelight to be comfortable. *sigh*

Still, the power came back and my internet seems to be working more or less normally again. :-)

How I wish for a thunderstorm and rain. 32 degrees Celsius in the shade in South Moravia yesterday. Today, the sky is completely clear and the day's shaping up for a repeat, and that's been going on for days if not weeks. I keep cool by keeping the windows open at night...

And I feel you on the computer updates. If it's any use to you, Linux (Ubuntu, at least) is very user-friendly in that regard. But I still need Windows programs on the laptop I use for school, so, yeah, not always an option. :P

Ithaca did get a thunderstorm, which seems to have broken the heat -- the next week's high temperatures are forecast at 80 or under (~27 Celsius, I think). On the other hand, there seems to be a persistent chance of thunderstorms or simple rainstorms, which is getting annoying. May was already on the rainy side of the scale, and June looks to be following in its footsteps.

I have a window-unit air conditioner, but it's small and feels sort of wasteful to use when I don't really need to, so I prefer when nights get cool enough for me to open all my windows and set up a cross-draft with electric fans. :-)

I was visiting a cousin in a village yesterday; they grow lots of things, and it just sort of puts things into perspective... Normally, this period of June is very rainy - there's even a folk saying connected to it - so the heats are weird. The last rain, we've surmised, was probably three weeks ago when we last met, so three weeks of no rain at all is rather discouraging; occasional showers would feel more natural.

Oh dear. We've had terrible droughts in some parts of the US and severe flooding in other places. I knew there had been a terrible heat wave in India and frightening weather in Italy and now it seems ruined sardine harvests in Portugal. I hope you see improvements soon because this is not good! the impacts of climate change are indeed awful.

Ugh. hot and humid here, too, which I cope with by cranking AC I'm afraid. It's the south. And mighty uncomfortable. I hope it cools down soon for you! How is your remix going?

I copypasted the fics I am thinking of remixing into a brainstorming file, which was easy as they're all drabbles, and am in the process of deciding which one to play with. And also rereading canon, for obvious reasons. *grin*

(There are reasons I will never move anywhere south of Philadelphia unless someone offers me at least a million dollars a year to do so, and they can be summarized in one word: SUMMER.)

This happens to me all the time (or, used to). It was worst when I had dial-up, and the internet actually could not do anything for the next 10 or so hours.

Oh, ugh, I hope you got home ok.

Eh, a mile is nothing, comparatively speaking; I actually make a point of walking at least two miles a day, for physical and mental health reasons. It's just annoying in certain weather extremes, and little things exacerbate each other.

My computer updated itself again today, but it is now running just fine and I sincerely hope it's done with that for a good while.
