stop! pepper time!

It's time for pepper project 2016!

For my birthday this year, my parents (well, my mom) bought me a weird little seed starter kit thingy. The idea is that you soak these discs of dried peat until they expand into cylinders, plant your seeds in the little pre-dug divots, and then stick everything into the plastic 'greenhouse' to sprout. The cover presumably helps keep both moisture and heat in while being mostly permeable to sunlight.

I figured I'd use half the discs this year and save the other eighteen for next year if the experiment proves a success. The unused ones are in a tupperware container in one of my kitchen cupboards, because why not.

I meant to get my seeds started a few weeks ago, but life kept happening at me and also acquiring a bag of potting soil (for eventual transplanting) ended up way more logistically annoying than I'd expected. Anyway, I finally planted eighteen seeds early in the morning of Sunday 3/27/16, and now I have a funny square of plastic with these silly little brown cylinders sitting on my kitchen table by the western windows. Presumably in a couple weeks at least some of the seeds will sprout. *crosses fingers, hopes for the best*

My plant-growing adventures have, so far, been limited to getting a potted primula and having to change its housing to a proper ceramics pot because it was going mouldy; hopefully that'll help. I do hope to grow some edible stuff, too, though...

I was going to say "I haven't seen a pot without one", but of course I have - the ones used as "outers"... It's a basic ceramics pot with a hole at the botton and of course there's a saucer beneath it. Literally a saucer, in this case. :D (Well, not for sauce, so come to think of it, I'm not sure of the level of the literariness. Don't mind me...)
