how does writing even work, anyway

This is mostly a note to myself, just thinking out loud.

Things I need to write in the remainder of 2018:
1. my Yuletide fic

Things I would like to write in the remainder of 2018, in an ideal world, but which are probably not going to happen:
1. my super-ridiculously-belated FTH fic
2. one chapter of "Guardian"

...

Things I should work on in 2019:

1. my super-ridiculously-belated FTH fic for [personal profile] mme_hardy
2. Susan's super-ridiculously-belated gift story
3. Vicky's super-ridiculously-belated gift story

(The lesson here is, "Don't offer to write people stories as presents when you're stuck in an extended depressive episode and also working 50+ hour weeks for a third of the year; also, when you finally get the depression treated, diving straight into finishing a college degree is not going to do anything helpful for your writing time or motivation." *sigh*)

4. Remix
5. Narnia Fic Exchange
5. Yuletide
6. possibly WIP Big Bang, though it's probably best to try leveraging that toward one of the gift stories if I play at all
7. at least one chapter of "Guardian"

That is a very full year right there, since the first three are all going to be at least 15,000 words, and the second in particular may well run 30,000+. And I'm sure I'll get bored and/or frustrated and do at least one mini-ficlet prompt meme at some point, plus of course I'll try to write a few three-sentence ficlets if the Three Sentence Ficathon runs again this December/January.

January through mid-April are still going to be a writing drought, for the usual "working two jobs and dying of overtime" reason, but after that I will A) not have college distracting me, B) not have sudden and unexpected overtime at the rental office, and C) not be weighted down by gray fog. I expect I will be horribly out of practice at sitting down and actually doing creative work by that point, but hopefully I will be able to get myself back in the saddle.

I miss writing. I just don't really have the brain for it this year, except under pressure or in rare moments of being almost not busy with a dozen other things. *wistful sigh*
