brief life update; initial reaction to X/1999

I may be made full-time at the store soonish, since A. has found another job with better health benefits. Full-time work 1: pays better (both because of increased hours and increased hourly wages), 2: has actual health benefits (minimal though they may be, it's better than going uninsured and betting that I won't get sick or have serious accidents), and 3: carries more responsibilities, and would thus look better on my resume.

Anyway, nothing is certain yet, but I have my fingers crossed!

---------------

Also, I have read vols. 1-17 of X/1999, and oh my GOD, that's depressing. It's pretty, it sucked me in, it made me spend several hours pondering some awkward philosophical/ethical questions, and I think I have fallen in love with Subaru and Seishirou for the twisted beauty of their relationship (or non-relationship; whatever), but still, my overwhelming impression is OUCH. Ouch, ouch, and just ouch.

CLAMP really like to go after readers' heartstrings with a chainsaw, don't they?

Yep. They also like to convert manga-reading, shojo-loving individuals into liberal-mided, squick-loving/accepting individuals (from an early age if possible).

Oh? Did that heart?

*stabs string with a knife*

No, I don't think you're really feeling it.

*sword stroke*

Nope. Still not there. I mean, you still have some left.

*inserts barbed hooks and pulls in opposite directions*

Wait, we're just getting started...

*chainsaw*

On that note, have you watched/read the Angelic Layer series by CLAMP? I like both although I like the anime better. One of my favorites in fact. ^_^ And there's this -kickass- AMV for it...

Hurt. Did that hurt. I totally can spell...

*grin* You would -think- so! But then I get distracted by all this wonderful anime (Ghost in the Shell Standalone Complex is FANTASTIC btw and Motoko is all sorts of coolness), manga, and recreational reading... Not that it's not recreational reading already, but just some books are just pure fun to read. ^_^

Eeeeee, new X fan! Welcome to the fold. ♥

Does this mean we can expect fic? :3

....don't they ever. They seem to have a thing for heartwrenching twists. X being just one example. And sometimes, it just gets made worst because the reader can see ways to mitigate the hurt, at least. ...and even the fluffy sugar stuff like CCS has its rip-your-heart-out-and-stomp-on-it moments.

Many ouches. And the background hints of past tragedy....
