Yesterday Ardis (my stepgrandmother) had a heart attack. While on vacation. In a small town in Croatia.

Vicky got her to a doctor, and then to a hospital, and she's doing okay, but god only knows when and how she's going to get back to the US. She's also very, very bored because the hospital doctors won't let her read -- too taxing, apparently -- so Vicky's been keeping her company and reading mystery books out loud.

This sucks.

I think everything will be okay -- it was a mild heart attack, and apparently the treatment was done professionally and she responded well. So now it's just a matter of time and working out the logistics of getting home. *crosses fingers*

Thanks. They've moved her to a hospital in a bigger town, and Vicky says she's doing well. My dad flew out this afternoon so hopefully he'll be able to arrange stuff with the medical people at Lufthansa (wheelchair, oxygen, stuff like that -- it's all precautionary) and get a flight back to NJ next weekend. Then, of course, she needs to fly from NJ to Minnesota, but domestic flights are usually less of a logistic nightmare than international ones.
