if I signed up for Ouroboros Mix, which stories should I offer...?
So apparently there is a Homestuck-only remix exchange that is open for signups until January 25. It's called Ouroboros Mix, and works as follows: you choose three of your own stories (complete, 500+ words, no crossovers) and offer them to be remixed; in return, you are assigned to a person who has also offered three stories, of which you pick one to redo. So it's doubly restricted, first by fandom and then by story availability -- you cannot choose any of your remixee's other Homestuck fics, just the three they specifically offered for the challenge. You can restrict your potential assignments a little bit via the AO3's Archive Warnings -- e.g., you could say you don't want to remix anything that contains Major Character Death, or Rape/Non-Con -- but all that will do is ensure that at least one of your remixee's stories fits those restrictions.
I am debating whether I want to sign up for this, given those rules. I mean, a lot of the fun of remixing is getting assigned to writers who are very different from you, but at least with Remix Redux you know you are getting a minimum of FIVE stories to work with, plus the option of ignoring your matched fandom altogether and cherry-picking any other damn thing your remixee has ever written (providing the story is complete and not co-written with somebody else, of course). That's significantly more breathing room than Ouroboros Mix allows.
Also I should be working on my Narnia Big Bang, not diving into new obligations. *gives self a stern look*
But challenges are good for the soul... *dithers*
I am also debating which three of my own stories to offer, should I give in and sign up. I figure Hollywood Shenanigans is a good one, since it can go either angsty or fluffy, has obvious potential for a POV switch, and can be made more or less shippy as desired. (Also I'd just be interested to see what someone else might make of it.) But I am stumped by which other two to pick. *dithers some more*
If anyone wants to talk me into or out of this exchange, feel free to leave a comment! (If you want to give opinions on which other two stories to hypothetically offer, I am all ears. All my completed Homestuck fics (aside from the colony planet AU snippet that I'm not writing) can be found here on AO3, though "Four by Four" and "Trollstuck" are obviously off-limits because they are WIPs.)
