*Technically this is not true, because backdating, but it is the oldest work which is the relevant point.

I'm not overly familiar with this series - read the first book some time this year, but never continued - But yes to all you say. Especially re: Wihelmina and Daemon. And yes, Daemon resents Wihelmina, but it's not her fault, and like you said, she was a victim too in that terrible household.

The Black Jewels series is not, objectively speaking, what I would call great literature... but it hits a LOT of my id buttons so I am willing to forgive Bishop quite a lot of flaws. I have no idea how the books would strike somebody who doesn't have those particular id hotspots. Probably somewhere between boring and OMGWTFBBQ???, because truly, there is a lot of WTF going on. *sigh*

The Angelline/Benedict household was a gigantic clusterfuck of wrongness on so many different levels, it is amazing anyone got out alive, to say nothing of getting out relatively functional.

Well, it wasn't quite on target with my Id buttons and ended up about there for me. A bit closer to wtf. My problem was that I sympathized a bit too much with the undead queen whose name I can't now remember, and disliked the male characters a tad too much, and figured that made the book not really for me.
