wherein Liz takes embarrassingly long to put two and two together

I have been wondering all evening WHAT on earth the persistent rushing noise I kept hearing in the background could possibly be -- wind? neighbors showering or doing laundry? some kind of generator or crowd watching sports at the restaurant across the street? Nothing seemed to quite fit.

And then it finally hit me just now: snowmelt swelling Fall Creek to spring flood level. OBVIOUSLY. Just like that has been the answer hundreds of times before, because I live two blocks from the freaking waterfall. *headdesk*

This is how I know I need more sleep.

Sleep well. And I always found it a very soothing noise.

It is soothing... provided you are not right next to it. I am far enough away that I only actively hear the waterfall when it's really full, but as you move east along my street, there are several houses where you can (quite literally) feel the walls shiver from the force of the water crashing down over the falls when the creek is running high.

The first apartment my husband and I shared backed on the railroad tracks. (Hence cheap). That long lonesome whistle is a great deal less charming twenty feet away from your bed.
