As of this morning, What Isn't Broken (Can Still Be Fixed) has 1,000 kudos on AO3.

I'm a middle ground writer, I think -- I'm never going to get the numbers of a BNF writing juggernaut ships in a juggernaut fandom, but I seem to have a moderately solid readership for various things. But by "moderately solid," I mean I can usually expect double-digits in kudos on my fics. Triple digits are relatively rare, and this is the first time a fic of mine has reached quadruple digit kudos.

I don't expect it to happen again, but it's a nice milestone nonetheless. :)

Woohoo! I have exactly one fic that has passed that milestone, and it's a juggernaut ship in a medium-big fandom which was neither at the time - it's a Yuletide fic for a fandom that no longer qualifies - and I don't expect it to happen again either. But congratulations! Something you wrote appeals to the masses, yay! ;-)

Thanks! Yeah, it's absolutely the ship and fandom that kicked this fic so far over all my others. Probably the length, too, come to think of it -- it's ~24,000 words, which is long enough for readers to sink their teeth into without getting overwhelmed.

I will be absolutely flabbergasted if I ever write anything that hits 1000 kudos. I tend to be a niche writer, I think, in terms of writing things that I want to see but that most other people aren't particularly looking for. Flitting from fandom to fandom adds to that.

Thanks! And I know what you mean -- one writes for oneself, first and foremost (except exchange gifts, I guess). Sometimes that happens to be exactly what 10,000 people want to read. Other times, it's only going to strongly appeal to maybe 100 people. Either way, though, I think the act of creation is worthwhile on its own. :)
