Someone left me a really long and thoughtful comment on AO3 early this morning, and it deserves a similarly long and thoughtful response (that is roughly equal parts 1. yes, I see where you are coming from about Thing; 2. I know that Other Thing makes the characters come off badly, but that's because it's meant to make them come off badly (for reasons I will now enumerate); and 3. let me tell you my clever handwave for the apparent plot hole you spotted (well done! it is indeed an annoying apparent plot hole!), which I have been meaning to write as a separate fic for mumblety years now), and I don't want to write it because human interaction is hard, blargh.

*flops disconsolately over keyboard*

I hear you so much. Some days you just are unable to can and that is OKAY do you hear me TOTALLY OKAY.

I have been known to leave "I saw this, and it is really interesting and needs a worthy response, and I'll do it when I have spoons". Either on Tumblr/DW or on the fic itself.

I'm working on something that has me thinking that consistency of characterization is too hard, so I know the not wanting to write that part.

The other problem with that as-yet-unwritten fic is that it's a combination of politics and romance/infatuation, and I am really bad at writing people feeling the initial phases of physical/romantic attraction at any length longer than a tiny ficlet. Which this would not be. *sigh*

The politics and culture clash stuff is tempting, though, as is filling in that nagging characterization plot hole...
