I just noticed that someone seems to have hacked my lj account.

Fortunately, all that they did was change one of my userpics -- my circle of multicolored question marks turned into a little animated Stephen Colbert icon saying 'FAIL.' I think it may have been meant as a comment on my account security. :-(

Anyway, I deleted the icon, changed my lj password and question, reset my email address a couple times, and changed all my email passwords as well -- a new and different one for each account. (I should have done that a while ago, but I got lazy and figured I had nothing worth hacking. Clearly I do not understand hacker mentality.)

*crosses fingers and hopes that works*


ETA: I am informed that this is simply one iteration of a site-wide icon glitch thing that's been going on for a while. While that's much less creepy than a hacker, it's still not terribly reassuring for my account security status. *sigh*

Oddly, this has occurred to me, as well (on two RP accounts), and when I asked someone else if "LJ was replacing icons for you, too", they said "I think it does for everyone".

It's never happened to me before! Of course, since I only have 6 icons, rather than, say, several dozen, I suppose it's not surprising that I haven't been hit by this glitch before. *sigh*

Yeah, I guess. My personal journal also hasn't been affected yet - only my two RP accounts with, as you say, several dozens of icons.

It might be a site-wide icon glitch, they happen from time to time. But upping the security on your LJ is a good idea anyway. XD;;

A site-wide icon glitch? Okay, that's a new one to me. And it doesn't speak terribly well of lj's technical aptitude, either. *sigh*

XD well, it hasn't happened to many people this time around but a couple of people on my flist complained about icon troubles recently. I remember one time a couple of years ago where icons got accidentally traded between accounts and it eventually got fixed.

... Or it could be a hacker or some other malevolent thing. Hard to say with LJ. >_>

Yep it is a site wide Icon glitch. I had two icons do this to me within the past 3 weeks. One I made and one I didn't.

I don't know what is causing it but I think it is because LJ saves icons by number and they may inverse/reverse them or something. I don't really get it. But yeah, you didn't get hacked.

Although it is highly annoying.

Annoying and creepy, since it implies that LJ can and will screw around with people's accounts by accident. It's bad enough when they do it on purpose! :-)

I have been informed that it's actually just some sort of site-wide icon glitch -- which is creepy enough as it is, since it implies that LJ can just come in and do whatever they want to my account, by accident -- but fortunately much less creepy than a hacker.

Still, it kicked me into upgrading my security, which is something I should have done a long time ago, so I guess all's well that ends well. :-)
