crossovers I am NOT going to write. Not, not, not!!!

I would like to register a protest against my brain.

See, two days ago I wrote An Ounce of Prevention, a Naruto/HP crossover (in which the HP elements were quite clearly inserted into the Naruto world), and said that if I continued it (which I'm not doing!) I would need to work out how the two worlds might connect.

That story was based on a question in a crack pairings meme. I ended up with another Naruto/HP crossover in that meme, which asked what kind of plot device I'd use to have Naruto deflower Ginny Weasley.

Over the past day and a half, I have spent far too much mental time and energy working out how to meld the five main ninja villages into the magical society of Japan, and explain Metamorphmagi as the distant descendents of kitsune and tanuki, and have Ginny doing a world tour after Voldemort's defeat (and her temporary breakup with Harry) in which she discovers that Japan is having its own problems with dark wizards (i.e., Orochimaru and Akatsuki), and have her accidentally meet Naruto, and...

*headdesk*

When you start wondering whether it would be better to put Kumo on Hokkaido and Iwa in northern Honshu, or the other way around (assuming Konoha to be in central Honshu, probably between Tokyo and Kyoto, except futher west), and figuring out the long and bloody history of the Japanese magical community (and their relation to the shinobi tradition, and the emperor, and the shogun) you know things have gotten out of hand.

I don't want to write this!

...

If anyone else does, I can supply you with LOTS of world-building details...

If I can write an entire saga combining the Potterverse with the Maori magic of New Zealand, you can do this. (And I say this without knowing a shred about Naruto. I have faith in you.)

Well... On one side, these world-building details sound really interesting, and anything coming from you is garanteed to be very well-planned (sometimes I wonder why are you still not making lots of money from writing RPG books). On the other, you already have a lot of projects to work on (Secrets - which, by the way, I have read and loved - The Guardian in Spite of Herself, Lemonade, Two Boys and a Girl, and are you still writing that sequel to Tides?)

So. My suggestion is that you write all those world-building detais down and post them on LJ. Of course, if the plotbunnies decide to attack you there's not much anyone can do...

Well, the historical ninja actually did have jounin, chuunin and genin levels if that helps. I was so very amused when I actually worked out that I'd be a chuunin by historical standards.
