I realize this is a very short section, but I am trying to finish this story and I figure I'm more likely to do so in many short posts than in fewer long posts. I am not good at delayed gratification, you see, so getting to post something is a really nice carrot I can hold out in front of myself. Anyway, quick recap: this is a non-Sgrub AU wherein the beta kids are trolls on Alternia, and everyone is trying to derail the vengeance cycle between Vriska and Aradia. We left Jothan having just realized that Vriska genuinely is trying to kill one of their mutual friends.

Okay, I think I will get started on revising the early parts of chapter 9, regardless of where I eventually decide to end it -- what you've been reading is basically my... not quite rough draft, but not anywhere near what I'd call polished either. Maybe draft 1.5? Anyway, I need to add a little bit more sensory description and scene-blocking, and also clarify exactly how destroyed Aradia's hive is, because that's going to be relevant to future stories. *evil grin*

The concept of “crew” is the invention of the wonderful and talented askerian, for her Covalent Bonds series — which is also a trollstuck concept, btw, though it’s a “suddenly trolls, wtf!” scenario rather than “of course we’re trolls; we always were.”

I always forget how fun writing is when I'm in a fallow period. Man, why do I let my sleep schedule get screwed up so I'm too tired to think creatively? It just makes me unhappy in all kinds of directions at once.

Chapter 8: Equius is now up on AO3! I think it's somewhere around 5,500 words, discounting the coding. (Yeah, I know, it's misleading to give him the chapter title, but he IS the official POV character, so what else could I do? *grin*)

Chapter 9 will now be the one titled "Shatterpoint," because it won't have an official POV character (not even as a joke). I have too many heads to jump in and out of, you see, both because there are a lot of events and conversations happening in different places among different subsets of characters, and because I can't be in certain POVs for certain events or else I'd break my "no real dialogue" rule before my chosen moment.

Now I am going to email a bunch of files to myself and maybe have some ice cream before drugging myself with Benadryl and going to be absurdly early. (Well. Early for me, anyway.) I have packed everything I can pack before the morning, I have moved the car further in from the street so Upstairs Neighbors R & A can use the driveway while I'm gone, I have moved my peppers to the front porch and written a note to Downstairs Neighbor S asking her to look after them, I have stopped my mail, I have checked in and printed my boarding passes, and basically I am ready.

Minnesota, here I come!

And there we are. It's surprisingly fun to play around with paint and Q-tips, even if the results are sadly short on fine detail. (It's also annoying not to have a proper black. I was able to create brown by mixing colors, as you can see, but black escaped me. Ah well.)

I am very glad to be working on this story again! During the several-month hiatus, I forgot how much fun it is to sit down and write whatever without worrying too much about artistry and structure and so on. In some ways, relinquishing total control of the plot means I also let go of a lot of stress -- if I'm not 100% in charge, there is no way to make the story "perfect," which means I don't have to try and can just play around instead. :-)
