Slow day today. Dad and I went in to Bemidji to do laundry and buy a starter for a fluorescent light. I also bought a pair of pants and a blazer at Target, as part of my continuing effort to build a semi-professional wardrobe.

It's raining now. The sound of the water rhythmically striking the eaves and the kitchen skylight has always been soothing to me; it's a sign that all is right with the world and all troubles will eventually be washed away. Or something like that.

Rain always makes me feel kind of Zen.

Anyway, this is a totally random Harry Potter snippet I found on the laptop today. It's Minerva McGonagall, and I suspect it's set during CoS. I doubt I'll ever do anything with it, but I felt I might as well let it see the light of day somewhere.

A Problem Like Ginevra

"Minerva?"

Minerva McGonagall, Professor of Transfiguration and Deputy Headmistress of Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry, looked up from her desk. "Yes, Xiomara?"

"Amaryllis and I are going for a drink. Come with."

Minerva sighed. "I have papers to mark," she said as she always did.

"Papers can wait. The pub closes." Xiomara Hooch grinned, her odd yellow eyes twinkling as she hauled Minerva from her chair and over to the office doorway. "Summon your cloak and we'll be off -- Amaryllis is waiting at the front gates."

Somehow she'd lost any real desire to resist this occasional gathering over the years, though she still protested out of habit. They didn't meet every week, nor on any set schedule. But now and then, when the pressure grew too heavy or some shock disrupted the school, Xiomara or Amaryllis would pop into her office and drag her off to the Three Broomsticks. She'd even returned the favor -- though she'd deny any such action if accused.

"Hello, Minerva!" Amaryllis Sprout's normally cheerful face was slightly dimmed from its usual beaming brilliance, but she managed a smile in her voice nonetheless. A useful talent, that, and one Minerva had never acquired.

---------------------------------------------

That's pretty much it. I suspect they would have gone to the Three Broomsticks and talked about the Petrifications and their various students. They'd gradually focus on Ginny Weasley, since McGonagall is her head of house, and Sprout has taken as interest in her over the course of "Secrets," but I have no burning desire to write that story at the moment, so this will remain an unanchored fragment.
