edenfalling: headshot of a raccoon, looking left (raccoon)
Summary: Abyss holds many secrets. Some keep them out of fear. Some keep them out of love. Sometimes it's hard to tell the difference. (750 words)

Note: Written for [personal profile] mme_hardy, in response to the prompt: Underage: Narutostuck. Jade and Aradia and Feferi all had excellent reasons to despair. Fortunately, each of them hid their doubts from the other two... until they didn't. It is also a fill for the [community profile] ladiesbingo square underage.

This is part of the Narutostuck AU, which is a fusion in which I jammed the Homestuck characters into the Naruto world. This story won't make much sense unless you've read the other stories in the AU and the worldbuilding notes attached to them, but I will attempt a quick summary. Basically Feferi, Aradia, and Jade are a team in Abyss, which is Kouin's version of Root. Their situation is exactly as fucked up as you think it is. Fortunately, the Signless Sufferer is leading a rebellion against the Lady of Space and the Uchuukage.

Content Note: Implied brainwashing, cult-like indoctrination, child soldiers, etc. Basically all the darker implications of both Naruto and Homestuck mixed together. The underage relationship is not graphic, and it's up for reader interpretation how physical it is.

Narutostuck: The Deepest Secret Nobody Knows )

*dusts hands* A little out of order, but you write what's willing to be written.
edenfalling: stylized black-and-white line art of a sunset over water (Default)
In the interest of having small things I can finish at (hopefully!) reasonable speed while I work on longer and long-delayed projects, it's time once again for a mini-ficlet prompt meme! I'm using my Ladies Bingo card, so this is for stories about female characters and their relationships with each other.

Here is a link to my Ladies Bingo card.

I am preemptively vetoing several prompts this time around, because reasons. (...Okay, I just want to fill in as many squares as possible without completing a single bingo. I have a Thing about patterns, shut up.)

You CANNOT ask for: Supernatural Happenings; Pets; Vengeance; Worst Case Scenario; Farce

You CAN ask for: Wibbly-Wobbly-Timey-Wimey: Time Travel; A Member of the Underclass (Urchins / Beggar / Outcast); Hurt / Comfort; Underage; Last Times / Farewells; Illness

If you would like to claim any of the open squares, please choose a prompt from the available list, and add two or three female characters plus a scenario. I will then write you a ficlet of at least 500 words.

-----

Obligatory small print:

1. I reserve the right to veto any fandoms I don't know well enough to write, and ask you to please try again.

2. Crossover prompts are fine. On the off chance that anyone wants to read a snippet from any of my original worlds and stories, ofic prompts are also fine.

3. I am cool with both gen and shippy prompts. Just be aware that I'm not great at romance, so if you request shipfic, it will come out fairly low-key and may end up as ambiguous gen anyway. (Porn is unlikely, though you can always ask.)

-----

Fills:

1. The Common Woman's Gold: Chronicles of Narnia. Prompt: Aravis & Lasaraleen: A Member of the Underclass! (undercover in the marketplace? sneaking out to have adventures?). For [personal profile] musesfool, 1,110 words.

2. Whilst You and I Keep Ourselves Warm: Chronicles of Narnia. Prompt: Hurt/comfort, anyone in Narnia (including OCs), cold/hypothermia/frostbite, please! For [personal profile] violsva, 1,636 words.

3. Narutostuck: The Deepest Secret Nobody Knows: Homestuck/Naruto. Prompt: Underage: Narutostuck. Jade and Aradia and Feferi all had excellent reasons to despair. Fortunately, each of them hid their doubts from the other two... until they didn't. For [personal profile] mme_hardy, 750 words.

4. A Long Road from Home: Darkangel Trilogy. Prompt: Illness -- Actually, I'd love to see a branch of that story where Ryllan, Roshka's daughter, goes to Aeriel for help. For [personal profile] rosaxx50, 1,680 words.

5. Go Forth To Meet the Future: Chronicles of Narnia. Prompt: Wibbly-wobbly-timey-wimey with Polly and Jill? Somehow, they meet out of time, or they do some dimension hopping, or both... For [personal profile] marmota_b, 1,900 words.
edenfalling: headshot of a raccoon, looking left (raccoon)
I have a scenario and backstory and some general world-building for my Palestuck fic. I have a kinda-sorta outline. I have a couple of key emotional beats, and an intertwined action and character arc/plot thingywhatsit.

And I have no fucking clue whose POV I should be in, let alone whether I should be trying to write in second or third person.

*headdesk*

You know what, screw this. I am going to do a mini-ficlet prompt meme after all, because desperate times call for desperate measures, and maybe if I kickstart myself into finishing something it will make my other projects flow better thereafter.

So.

Leave a comment with one to three characters plus a mood, a scenario, or a prompt word, and I will write you a ficlet that is at least three sentences and/or 100 words long.

(Obligatory small print: Crossover prompts are fine. On the vanishingly unlikely chance anyone wants to read a snippet from any of my original worlds and stories, that kind of prompt is also fine. I reserve the right to reject fandoms I am not familiar with and produce ambiguous gen when attempting to write shipfic.)

Here, have a little Narutostuck ficlet, for no particular reason.

Summary: The thing about Abyss, the part no outsider understands, is that it wasn't horrible at all. It was family. (275 words)

[ETA: The ever-so-slightly revised final version is now up on AO3!]

Narutostuck: Culture Shock )

---------------------------------------------

Blargh. Where has my creativity gone this past week? My brain feels all gummed up and slow.

(Oh, right, and for context: Abyss is Kouin's version of Root, but as you can see its deep mental conditioning took a slightly different direction. If you have any tips for making Jade a more obviously unreliable narrator, they would be most welcome.)
edenfalling: headshot of a raccoon, looking left (raccoon)
Summary: After the revolution, Karkat is assigned to a special forces training team with Terezi Pyrope and Dave Strider. He'd never admit it, but they might be the least bad of his possible options. (They might even agree.) [3,400 words]

Note: There's a reason I call these three 'Team Damaged Goods,' and it's not because they had idyllic childhoods. Terezi's past is explained in Narutostuck: Set with Stars, but Dave and Karkat are equally screwed up in their own ways: Dave because he has what could be a first-generation kekkai genkai related to time manipulation and was thus the subject of intense experimentation, and Karkat because he's the genetic double of the Sufferer and was thus used as a combination of hostage and indoctrinated propaganda piece. Nothing terrible happens to anyone during this fic, but Karkat does think about their pasts and there's a brief description of Terezi's ruined eyes and what happened to them.

I don't think anything in this story is worse than the canonical darkness in either Homestuck or Naruto, but you are the best judge of your own boundaries. :-)

[ETA: The ever-so-slightly revised final version is now up on AO3!]

Narutostuck: Damaged Goods )

HA. It took me three-plus years and a lot of angst to write that story, but it is DONE. *dusts hands*

(If you have suggestions for improving anything, I am all ears, since I freely acknowledge I lost perspective on this fic somewhere back in 2013.)
edenfalling: headshot of a raccoon, looking left (raccoon)
Here, have some Narutostuck backstory. (Nothing awful happens on-page, but some of the background implications are fairly skeevy... so fair warning for that, I guess?)

Trolls can't breed for bloodline limits, but humans can. The old regime is not kind in its methods. Roxy does what she can to spare Dirk the consequences. (975 words)

[ETA: The slightly-revised final version is now up on AO3.]

Narutostuck: The Mother of Necessity )

---------------------------------------------

For the record, Roxy and Dirk are cousins in this AU. Jane, Dadbert, and Jake are all half-siblings -- Dadbert is the child of Jane's father and Jake's mother (who were probably Alpha!John and Alpha!Jade but are definitely dead so it's not really relevant), so they are each related to him but not directly related to each other. Jane is Miss Not-Mentioned-In-This-Fic because her Lifey Thing caught the regime's attention when she was very young and she was conscripted into Kouin's version of Root. Whoops.

---------------

In other news, I have three chapters of Secrets up on AO3 now. I also posted Restoration and Paint the Town over there. I've been manually posting chapters rather than importing from ff.net, partly because I want to look them over and make a few minor edits (mostly removing italics and a bit of adjusted punctuation), and partly because the line-breaks I use on ff.net are a response to the way that site strips code out of uploads and I'd rather not use them on other sites if I don't have to. (There are also a couple points in later chapters where Sir Vladislav crosses out some text. Since ff.net does not allow strikethrough text effects, I had to alter those lines when I posted there.)

Tangentially, I am fascinated to discover that AO3 hosts four other stories that include Harry/Luna/Draco. I am not the only person who has written that threesome! (I have never been certain, but I may have been the first person to do so back in 2005. Which is a weird thought.) I must go check these other stories out and see if they're any good...

ETA: I have read three of the four; the last is a WIP and the summary does not sound like my thing. I quite liked The Moon Is a Strange Mistress and thought Matrjoschka was interesting (though I'm annoyed at the misspellings in the quote line from "Erlkönig" -- you can google that in thirty seconds, it is not hard to fix). Contagious Madness, on the other hand, was written for a porn fest and it shows; there is no real setup and no real conclusion, just sex for the sake of sex. Which is fine, but not what I personally want out of rare pairing fic.
edenfalling: headshot of a raccoon, looking left (raccoon)
A little Narutostuck interlude while the teams are en route to the eastern Elemental Countries, to participate in a chuunin exam. Terezi, Dave, and Karkat have been a team for about a sweep at this point (as have the other kid-and-troll teams). The revolution ended when they were, oh, let's say fourteen, so they're roughly sixteen now. Previous installments include The Spider and the Flies (complete) and Damaged Goods (fragment).

(No, I don't know why the trolls still count time in sweeps. I'm inclined to say it has something to do with an oceanic climate cycle, because seatrolls, but it might relate instead to the revolution of the Naruto universe's equivalent of Mars. Maybe that extra-terrestrial year happens to match nicely with troll reproductive cycles, for whatever reason. It is a mystery!)

Anyway, story.

While traveling east to the chuunin exam, Terezi reflects on history and maps and indulges in a bit of pointless stargazing. Her teammates help, in their own idiosyncratic ways. Contains passing mention of Terezi's fraught history with Vriska. (1,075 words)

[ETA: The slightly revised final version is now up on AO3.]

Narutostuck: Set with Stars )

---------------------------------------------

This was actually a 45-minute fic, but shoosh, I won't tell if you don't. ;-)
edenfalling: headshot of a raccoon, looking left (raccoon)
I have an uncontrollable urge to go do actual research on Pompeii and Herculaneum and stuff before writing the next section of "Trollstuck." Damn this sudden need for vague gestures in the direction of accuracy!

...

Have a Narutostuck snippet instead:

Narutostuck: Damaged Goods )

-----

True facts: in this AU, cherry candy red blood is a known mutation that pops up at least once every ten years or so, no matter how hard the Condesce tried to cull it out of the population. Current theory is that it's somehow caused by chakra use, even though nobody's figured out exactly why.
edenfalling: headshot of a raccoon, looking left (raccoon)
This was written for [personal profile] runespoor, in response to the prompt: Homestuck/Naruto fusion: it's not Sburb/Sgrub, it's the trolls-and-kids' chuunin exam. (link to prompt and discussion)

So, background! I have decided that the trolls and the kids live in the Land of Space (Uchuu no Kuni), which lies west of the Land of Wind, across the great desert. Their ninja village is Hidden Time (...Kouingakure no Sato, maybe? I'm less sure of that one -- if you know the best translation of 'time' in this context, please tell me!). Until very recently, their country was largely isolated from the other elemental countries, both because of troll/human tensions and because the Land of Space was engaged in a generations-long campaign to invade and settle the lands across the western ocean. Which is where the human population of the country comes from; descendents of slaves and prisoners of war. (This is my handwave so I can keep using their standard American English names, because I am lazy like a lazy thing. Please try not to think too hard about whether the trolls speak Japanese, English, or a third language altogether.)

Anyway! About three years ago, there was a revolution. The Condesce, who was the Lady of Space, was overthrown, along with the old Uchuukage and several of their most prominent supporters. They escaped and are currently at large. The Land of Space is still unsettled from the aftershocks of that change, but the new leaders are doing their best to wind down the war in the west without abandoning their people who have lived on the western continent for generations now, and also to reach out a hand of peace to the elemental countries in the east. The elemental countries, having just finished dealing with their own troubles (Madara et al), are tentative about this, but have extended an invitation for Hidden Time to send participants to the upcoming chuunin exam in Konoha.

Vriska Serket is very interested in whether her country's new leaders will accept, and ropes her teammates into helping her spy on their meeting. (2,400 words)

Narutostuck: The Spider and the Flies )

---------------------------------------------

I have THOUGHTS about the other four teams (respectively, Dave-Terezi-Karkat; Kanaya-Nepeta-Equius; Jade-Feferi-Aradia; and Rose-Eridan-Sollux), and a vague idea for an overarching plot, but I cannot promise I will ever write more than this fic in this AU. Sorry about that.

(I will try, though!)

Master List of Elizabeth Culmer's Fanfiction: Crossovers
---------------------------------------------

Organization: This list is organized in vaguely chronological order, counting from the start of each series or multi-chapter story. Memes and miscellaneous one-shots are at the bottom of the page. Word counts and writing dates are approximations.

Content/Warning Policy: 1) I am not consistent about warnings! I use them when I remember, for a few relatively broad categories of potentially problematic content, but if something is off-page, non-explicit, or generally backgrounded, I probably won't think to note it in the metadata. 2) The things I try to warn for are explicit sex, rape, murder, torture, cannibalism, incest, depression/suicide, familial dysfunction, and occasionally also societal dysfunction (aka dystopia). Sometimes I just slap a general content warning on all my fic for a given fandom and don't label each individual fic. I also don't generally warn for violence, unless the violence in a fic is dramatically out-of-step with the violence in its source canon. 3) I don't use any content rating system unless I'm posting to a site or community that requires or encourages ratings, because I find movie-style ratings counter-intuitive when applied to written fiction, and not particularly useful for anything other than denoting the presence of explicit sex, which I already note in the metadata.

Quality Rating System: I've marked my favorite stories with asterisks, on a scale of 1 to 4. The more asterisks, the more I like the story. This doesn't necessarily mean that stories without asterisks are bad, just that I don't like them as much. Also, I am not claiming to be an arbiter of taste; you may love stories I dislike, and vice versa. I am just providing a heads-up about the ones that I think are best written and/or most interesting.

Notes: My approach to crossovers is to take a stupid and/or ridiculous idea -- because crossing two separate secondary worlds is almost always a silly thing to do -- and treat it as realistically as possible, paying particular attention to characterization. I figure that I'm asking readers to suspend so much disbelief over jamming two series together that I'd better not push on any other aspect. Also, I feel the point of a crossover is to have characters from different canons meet -- or at least to have characters from one canon react to a different canon world -- so if you aren't writing them in-character, why are you even bothering? *grin*

Where To Read: As always, if an AO3 version exists, it is definitive. FF.net versions are definitive in the absence of an AO3 version. Journal versions are the equivalent of beta drafts, though the shorter and/or fragmentary works may never be posted anywhere else.
