I finally finished editing Fixation, and Other Stories, my set of Ginny/Harry/Draco ficlets for thirtyforthree. The link in the previous sentence goes to the final version on ff.net. Even if you've read all the component fics before, you might want to read the collected version. For one thing, I edited several pieces significantly, and for another, now you can see how the connected ones fit together.

I wrote Fixation, and Other Stories as a set of theme responses for the thirtyforthree livejournal community. At first, I had no intention of letting any of the stories, drabbles, or character study vignettes interlock into anything like a unified story or timeline. Except then some of them did.

Fixation, and Other Stories is arranged in a pattern of alternating chapters. The odd-numbered ones contain two fics each and are all part of a single timeline -- "Fixation" -- while the even-numbered chapters -- the "Other Stories" part of the title -- contain three fics each and have sod-all to do with each other. The only consistent inter-chapter link is that they all deal with the same three people: Harry Potter, Ginny Weasley, and Draco Malfoy. (Each even-numbered chapter does, however, have an internal thematic link, like 'dystopian future' or 'crack AU.')

Basically, I was just having fun and trying bizarre things out to see if they would fly or crash. Some flew. Others I'm still not sure about.

On a totally different topic from my previous post (well, kind of; it's still fanfic-related)...

Last year I wrote 31 Harry/Ginny/Draco ficlets of varying length for thirtyforthree. They do actually all fit together, into a story that I call "Fixation, and Other Stories." I would like to post them as a unit.

But.

They need editing.

My usual beta readers are both busy at this time, and are already editing chapter 11 of "Secrets" for me anyway. I don't want to bother them with another, larger, project.

On a completely different subject from my last post:

I am at a computer lab and will probably be here for a while. And people seem to be doing drabble/ficlet memes right and left this past week, and I've always wanted to try one of those, and I don't feel like working on any of my WIPs right now, so...

Hand me a prompt (some characters, a situation, please not too vague, and also please no sex since it takes me way too long to write sex scenes and I almost always end up skimming anyway) and I will write you a ficlet. You can try any fandom for which I am familiar with the source material, or any of my own stories. If I can't write your prompt for any reason, you can select a new one.

Now, someone please talk fast and convince me that it would be monumentally stupid to sign up again, for either Kira/Setsuna/Sara or Lucifer/Alexiel/Gabriel from Angel Sanctuary. (Or both at once.) Because there's a little voice in the back of my head saying that it would be so interesting...

And that sort of thing never ends well.

Yes, it's time for another thirtyforthree ficlet! Just one more and a tag to go! (I'm putting this one up first because the next one has alternate versions -- one's in story form, and one's in memory/character study form -- but I'm an idiot and forgot to save the extra version to my floppy disk.)

Interestingly, this is not at all what I intended to write for this theme and title. The fic, as written, covers the main points I wanted to make, but the form and structure were a huge surprise to me. Stories that write themselves are always somewhat disquieting, even if they're also something of a relief when I'm beating my head against more recalcitrant projects... but overall, I'm okay with the way this one turned out.

On a completely different note, it's Election Day. US citizens, go vote! Free, democratic societies are only as good as their citizens are willing to make them, and voting is a responsibility as well as a right. So go punch holes, or mark ballots, or press buttons, or flip switches, or whatever. Each individual vote may not have much effect, but they add up, and it's the principle of the thing that matters as much as anything else.

Besides, sometimes they hand out stickers. :-) I got one today. I also got a corn muffin for 50 cents, because my polling place is an elementary school and the local PTA took advantage of the day and held a bake sale. Mmm, corn muffins...
