edenfalling: headshot of a raccoon, looking left (raccoon)
Summary: The first time Jill Pole met Polly Plummer was nine days after her return from Narnia, once the initial hubbub about an escaped circus lion had died down and all the real muck about the Head and the general disastrous state of Experiment House was starting to come to light. (1,900 words)

Note: Written for [personal profile] marmota_b, in response to the prompt: Wibbly-wobbly-timey-wimey with Polly and Jill? Somehow, they meet out of time, or they do some dimension hopping, or both... It is also a fill for the [community profile] ladiesbingo square wibbly-wobbly-timey-wimey: time travel.

(Say hello to the accidental setup for a novella I am not going to write. *headdesk*)

Go Forth To Meet the Future )

The historical British school system is such a pain in the neck to research, and I'm sure I've still gotten things wrong. Point out any errors you see, please?
edenfalling: headshot of a raccoon, looking left (raccoon)
Summary: It was tradition in Ryllan's family -- newborn, yet already rooted deep -- that each child in turn would travel to Crystalglass and spend a year in service to the Lady who was their aunt. (1,680 words)

Note: Written for [personal profile] rosaxx50, in response to the prompt: Illness -- Actually, I'd love to see a branch of that story where Ryllan, Roshka's daughter, goes to Aeriel for help. It is also a fill for the [community profile] ladiesbingo square illness.

Annoyingly, this ended up not having anything to do with how and why Ryllan went traveling in the unknown lands west of Terrain, but when I tried to write that story, this one that insisted on happening first. *hands* On the other hand, I now both have a better idea of who Ryllan is AND what Aeriel might have needed her to do in the western mountains.

A Long Road from Home )

*dusts hands* Four down, one to go!
edenfalling: headshot of a raccoon, looking left (raccoon)
Summary: Abyss holds many secrets. Some keep them out of fear. Some keep them out of love. Sometimes it's hard to tell the difference. (750 words)

Note: Written for [personal profile] mme_hardy, in response to the prompt: Underage: Narutostuck. Jade and Aradia and Feferi all had excellent reasons to despair. Fortunately, each of them hid their doubts from the other two... until they didn't. It is also a fill for the [community profile] ladiesbingo square underage.

This is part of the Narutostuck AU, which is a fusion in which I jammed the Homestuck characters into the Naruto world. This story won't make much sense unless you've read the other stories in the AU and the worldbuilding notes attached to them, but I will attempt a quick summary. Basically Feferi, Aradia, and Jade are a team in Abyss, which is Kouin's version of Root. Their situation is exactly as fucked up as you think it is. Fortunately, the Signless Sufferer is leading a rebellion against the Lady of Space and the Uchuukage.

Content Note: Implied brainwashing, cult-like indoctrination, child soldiers, etc. Basically all the darker implications of both Naruto and Homestuck mixed together. The underage relationship is not graphic, and it's up for reader interpretation how physical it is.

Narutostuck: The Deepest Secret Nobody Knows )

*dusts hands* A little out of order, but you write what's willing to be written.
edenfalling: headshot of a raccoon, looking left (raccoon)
Summary: These tunnels didn't carry the icy cold of winter, but even the mild chill and damp of a dreary autumn twilight could leech a body's grip on life, given enough time. Susan wasn't certain, but she thought she and Lucy had been down here at least three days -- perhaps as many as five. (1,636 words)

Note: Written for [personal profile] violsva, in response to the prompt: Hurt/comfort, anyone in Narnia (including OCs), cold/hypothermia/frostbite, please! It is also a fill for the [community profile] ladiesbingo square hurt/comfort.

In early 2015, I made passing mention of the time Susan and Lucy fell down a well and spent a fortnight wandering an abandoned mine infested with Cruels and Boggles and the People of the Toadstools. Today I finally present a small portion of that story. :)

Whilst You and I Keep Ourselves Warm )

November was not a great writing month for me, alas, but I triumphed in the end! ...Even when the story unexpectedly decided it wanted to be songfic, what even. *hands*
edenfalling: stylized black-and-white line art of a sunset over water (Default)
I'm trying to write a hurt/comfort ficlet with the hurt being hypothermia.

I've got the hurt part down. I am not having any trouble whatsoever with the hurt.

The comfort part, though.

...

...

I think either I will have to deus ex machina myself a shortcut, or this is going to grow into a proper short story rather than a ficlet. Blargh. Why do I write myself into corners like this?

(Because I live for worldbuilding and character interactions, obviously, but shhh, allow me to pretend these are unforeseen woes rained down upon me from vague and mysterious external sources, okay? Okay. Good.)
edenfalling: headshot of a raccoon, looking left (raccoon)
Summary: In which Aravis encounters an unexpected complication on her way to set up a moderately illegal coffee import contract. (1,110 words)

Note: Written for [personal profile] musesfool, in response to the prompt: Aravis & Lasaraleen: A Member of the Underclass! (undercover in the marketplace? sneaking out to have adventures?) It is also a fill for the [community profile] ladiesbingo square: a member of the underclass.

The Common Woman's Gold )

For the curious, the "Handmaid of Zardeenah" thing is a bit of headcanon I just made up this year for my Narnia Fic Exchange fill. In summary, Calormene sailors consider it Very Important to have at least one girl to young-ish woman on every ship to act as a stand-in for the goddess Zardeenah and perform propitiating rites for Sokda, the god of the sea and storms.

*dusts hands* Okay, on to the next prompt!

(I may tweak this one a little before crossposting it to AO3. I think the end is a little thematically weak, but I can't quite pin down why. Let me know if you have any advice!)
edenfalling: stylized black-and-white line art of a sunset over water (Default)
In the interest of having small things I can finish at (hopefully!) reasonable speed while I work on longer and long-delayed projects, it's time once again for a mini-ficlet prompt meme! I'm using my Ladies Bingo card, so this is for stories about female characters and their relationships with each other.

Here is a link to my Ladies Bingo card.

I am preemptively vetoing several prompts this time around, because reasons. (...Okay, I just want to fill in as many squares as possible without completing a single bingo. I have a Thing about patterns, shut up.)

You CANNOT ask for: Supernatural Happenings; Pets; Vengeance; Worst Case Scenario; Farce

You CAN ask for: Wibbly-Wobbly-Timey-Wimey: Time Travel; A Member of the Underclass (Urchins / Beggar / Outcast); Hurt / Comfort; Underage; Last Times / Farewells; Illness

If you would like to claim any of the open squares, please choose a prompt from the available list, and add two or three female characters plus a scenario. I will then write you a ficlet of at least 500 words.

-----

Obligatory small print:

1. I reserve the right to veto any fandoms I don't know well enough to write, and ask you to please try again.

2. Crossover prompts are fine. On the off chance that anyone wants to read a snippet from any of my original worlds and stories, ofic prompts are also fine.

3. I am cool with both gen and shippy prompts. Just be aware that I'm not great at romance, so if you request shipfic, it will come out fairly low-key and may end up as ambiguous gen anyway. (Porn is unlikely, though you can always ask.)

-----

Fills:

1. The Common Woman's Gold: Chronicles of Narnia. Prompt: Aravis & Lasaraleen: A Member of the Underclass! (undercover in the marketplace? sneaking out to have adventures?). For [personal profile] musesfool, 1,110 words.

2. Whilst You and I Keep Ourselves Warm: Chronicles of Narnia. Prompt: Hurt/comfort, anyone in Narnia (including OCs), cold/hypothermia/frostbite, please! For [personal profile] violsva, 1,636 words.

3. Narutostuck: The Deepest Secret Nobody Knows: Homestuck/Naruto. Prompt: Underage: Narutostuck. Jade and Aradia and Feferi all had excellent reasons to despair. Fortunately, each of them hid their doubts from the other two... until they didn't. For [personal profile] mme_hardy, 750 words.

4. A Long Road from Home: Darkangel Trilogy. Prompt: Illness -- Actually, I'd love to see a branch of that story where Ryllan, Roshka's daughter, goes to Aeriel for help. For [personal profile] rosaxx50, 1,680 words.

5. Go Forth To Meet the Future: Chronicles of Narnia. Prompt: Wibbly-wobbly-timey-wimey with Polly and Jill? Somehow, they meet out of time, or they do some dimension hopping, or both... For [personal profile] marmota_b, 1,900 words.
edenfalling: headshot of a raccoon, looking left (raccoon)
Summary: Yukiko and Kakashi run an undercover mission in the coastal port of Asase during monsoon season. Rain can make anyone philosophical. Part of the Apartment Manager AU, set after The Guardian in Spite of Herself and before An Unorthodox Pedagogical Approach. (3,515 words)

Note: Written for [personal profile] warriordrgnmage, in response to the prompt: Naruto: Hatake Kakashi/Ayakawa Yukiko set in the Way of the Apartment Manager Series Timeline. For the Bingo card: Monsoon. It is also a fill for the [community profile] genprompt_bingo square monsoon.

For obvious reasons, Yukiko and Kakashi are using fake names while undercover. Yukiko is Aoi, and Kakashi is Hyoujin.

Also, you may notice that this is gen! See, while I am perfectly cool with people shipping Yukiko with Kakashi, that is 100% never going to become Apartment Manager canon, for many, many reasons. If anyone wants a shippy AU, you are welcome to write it yourself, because I flat-out CANNOT. Seriously, even if I tried, you wouldn't want the results. They would be awful. Trust me on that.

[ETA: the AO3 crosspost is now up!]

Between the Saltwater and the Sea-Strand )

Well, that took significantly longer than it needed to, but I won in the end. \o/

Also, Kuwa Natsume (from Whose Allegiance Is Ruled by Expedience) is now officially part of Apartment Manager continuity. You're welcome. :D
edenfalling: headshot of a raccoon, looking left (raccoon)
Summary: Helping your sister take care of her new twins is vexing. Figuring out a stable and robust system of government for Narnia that will outlast your death is even more vexing, but you can't properly manage the former task without eventually facing the latter. AU, no White Stag. (1,425 words)

Note: Written for [personal profile] alexseanchai, in response to the prompt: kids / babies, the Pevensie(s) of your choice, didn't-return-to-England AU. It is also a fill for the [community profile] genprompt_bingo square kids / babies.

[ETA: the ever-so-slightly edited final version is now up on AO3!]

I Believe the Children Are Our Future )

Miscellaneous worldbuilding notes! In this AU, I am assuming the Pevensies are still interested in international alliances -- probably moreso since the whole Rabadash incident -- and this has resulted in Susan marrying a relative of the royal house of Kutu (the country south of Calormen) while Edmund has married a princess from Telmar. I am unsure about Peter, and as for Lucy, she's eventually going to go on a sailing adventure to the uttermost east and run into a suspiciously familiar Sea-Woman because if I'm already going AU, why not shove in the Lucy ship of my heart? *waves tiny Lucy/Sea-Girl flag*
edenfalling: stylized black-and-white line art of a sunset over water (Default)
I'm kind of grinding my wheels on my WIP Big Bang project (untitled DW/TMA crossover) and my other focus project (untitled Narnia bridge fic) is also being uncooperative. I therefore want to write some tiny finger-exercises in hopes of unsticking my brain.

Here is a link to my Genprompt Bingo card.

For those who prefer lists to graphics, the open squares are: Exploration, Missing Persons, Virtual Reality, Violence, Anticipation, Rich and Poor, Cherished, Far Over the Misty Mountains Cold, Winter, WILD CARD, Cowardly, Angst, Energy Beings, The Tower, Monsoon, Kids / Babies, Something Useful, Explorer

If you would like to claim any of the open squares, please choose a prompt from the card, add one to three characters plus a scenario or mood, and I will write you a ficlet of at least 100 words.

Obligatory small print:

1. I reserve the right to veto any fandoms I don't know well enough to write, and ask you to please try again.

2. Crossover prompts are fine. On the off chance that anyone wants to read a snippet from any of my original worlds and stories, ofic prompts are also fine.

3. In this challenge, WILD CARD means to grab any prompt from the complete round 15 prompt list. I reserve the right to veto any such wild card substitutions and ask you to please try again.

4. Genprompt Bingo fills do not have to be gen! (The 'gen' refers to the squares, which do not automatically presuppose shipping.) Just be aware that I'm not great at romance, so if you request shipfic, it will come out fairly low-key and may end up as ambiguous gen anyway. Porn is unlikely, though you can always ask.
