Um. So. Locked Room Problems seems to have been nominated for a Crossing Over Award at Twisting the Hellmouth. It's up for this one:

ACS' Band Candy Award
For those crossover stories about the old(er) humans in the Scoobies' lives, dedicated to Giles and Joyce and their brief moment in Band Candy.

Eligible fics include those where the primary relationship involves shipping Joyce, Giles, Jenny Calendar, Snyder, Mayor Wilkins, Willy the bartender, Wesley Wyndam-Pryce, even Quentin Travers, etc. (the grown-ups), with a crossover character.

...

I am torn between WTF? and SO COOL!

Also, y'know, I could've sworn I posted the story and the epilogue to TTH last month, but I can't find "Locked Room Problems" anywhere on their site anymore. Their search function has always been prone to randomly losing stories, but this is personally irritating to me.

A little over a year ago I posted Locked Room Problems, a BtVS/Indiana Jones crossover story whose plot boils down to this: Rupert Giles and Indiana Jones are trapped in a temple and a demonic fertility goddess forces them to have sex. I mean, there's a lot of scene-setting, and some character stuff, and some thoughts on making the two series and timelines play nice with each other, but basically it was an excuse to make those particular two men have sex, amen, the end. Of course, the sex ended up being no more than a couple paragraphs long, but I got the plot bunny to stop attacking me and considered the whole business well finished.

Except the plot had a few loose ends, one of which had enough potential for misinterpretation (mpreg anyone?) that I didn't feel comfortable posting the story anywhere besides LJ. I decided this could be fixed with an epilogue, and then never quite got around to writing said epilogue.

Until now.

Locked Room Problems: Epilogue )

And yes, I realize that this sounds like a set-up for a terrible Mary-Sue epic, but I don't really care because A) I am not continuing the story, B) it fits thematically into the whole BtVS mythos, and C) frankly, Mary-Sues are made more in the execution than the idea.

Buffy is hard to write. Did I screw her up too badly?

This story is only kind of beta'ed, since [livejournal.com profile] aichmetes was busy at the time, though her comments were, as usual, perceptive and helpful. *waves at Cat* Still, if I'm totally butchering either canon, or either man, please correct me! Also tell me if the story flow is wacky -- I think the pacing is still a little off toward the end.

Anyway. This is the story whose summary reads thusly: "Rupert Giles and Indiana Jones are trapped in a temple and a demonic fertility goddess forces them to have sex." There's a bit more to it than that -- I had to set the scene and all -- but that's what it boils down to.

Go. Read away. :-)

(Or you can read the final version on ff.net or on TTH -- remember, the version on LJ is the equivalent of a beta draft.)

Locked Room Problems )

ETA, 1/24/07: The story now has an epilogue, which, among other things, explains what Caiquetl meant by 'taking care of the rest.'

It's been snowing here in Ithaca, which is just peachy, really. At least I now know where the snow shovel is, so the sidewalks shouldn't get iced over the way they did in the last snowstorm.

Master List of Elizabeth Culmer's Fanfiction: Crossovers
---------------------------------------------

Organization: This list is organized in vaguely chronological order, counting from the start of each series or multi-chapter story. Memes and miscellaneous one-shots are at the bottom of the page. Word counts and writing dates are approximations.

Content/Warning Policy: 1) I am not consistent about warnings! I use them when I remember, for a few relatively broad categories of potentially problematic content, but if something is off-page, non-explicit, or generally backgrounded, I probably won't think to note it in the metadata. 2) The things I try to warn for are explicit sex, rape, murder, torture, cannibalism, incest, depression/suicide, familial dysfunction, and occasionally also societal dysfunction (aka dystopia). Sometimes I just slap a general content warning on all my fic for a given fandom and don't label each individual fic. I also don't generally warn for violence, unless the violence in a fic is dramatically out-of-step with the violence in its source canon. 3) I don't use any content rating system unless I'm posting to a site or community that requires or encourages ratings, because I find movie-style ratings counter-intuitive when applied to written fiction, and not particularly useful for anything other than denoting the presence of explicit sex, which I already note in the metadata.

Quality Rating System: I've marked my favorite stories with asterisks, on a scale of 1 to 4. The more asterisks, the more I like the story. This doesn't necessarily mean that stories without asterisks are bad, just that I don't like them as much. Also, I am not claiming to be an arbiter of taste; you may love stories I dislike, and vice versa. I am just providing a heads-up about the ones that I think are best written and/or most interesting.

Notes: My approach to crossovers is to take a stupid and/or ridiculous idea -- because crossing two separate secondary worlds is almost always a silly thing to do -- and treat it as realistically as possible, paying particular attention to characterization. I figure that I'm asking readers to suspend so much disbelief over jamming two series together that I'd better not push on any other aspect. Also, I feel the point of a crossover is to have characters from different canons meet -- or at least to have characters from one canon react to a different canon world -- so if you aren't writing them in-character, why are you even bothering? *grin*

Where To Read: As always, if an AO3 version exists, it is definitive. FF.net versions are definitive in the absence of an AO3 version. Journal versions are the equivalent of beta drafts, though the shorter and/or fragmentary works may never be posted anywhere else.
