I have no idea where this came from: two women, one coat, and an argument.

Breaking Points

"When I give you money for groceries, you're supposed to buy groceries, not buy your stupid coat back from the pawn shop -- where it wouldn't have been in the first place if you hadn't gambled away last week's grocery money!"
Lisa shrugged. "Eh, we'll get by. I'll get extras from work tonight; Joe's making popcorn shrimp and you like that."
Anne glared at her partner. "That's not the point! I can't ever trust you with money anymore, and sooner or later you're going to do something that we can't work around. And then where will we be?"
"Broke?" Lisa suggested, grinning.
"Argh." Anne turned and hit the kitchen doorframe. "Look. I don't have time to buy groceries most weeks -- you know that. You don't have work 'til four. And just because you can get food from Sunrise doesn't mean you can get everything else we need. Why can't you just be sensible for once?"
Lisa sighed. "Okay, okay, I'm sorry. It's just... oh, I dunno. I've never been good with money, that's what you do. And I'm sorry about the card games, but I don't pawn any of your stuff!"
"Again, not the point," Anne said, resting her face in her arm as she learned against the doorframe. "Look, I love you, really. But you keep doing this. And it's wearing me out. It's like you don't care about what I want, like all your stupid shit is more important than I am. I don't think I can keep on."
"Anne! Jesus!" Lisa stepped forward and wrapped her arms around Anne's slumped body. "Look, I'll take the coat back and we can buy groceries together -- I'll call in sick -- just, why didn't you say anything before?"
Anne turned and stared wearily at Lisa. "That's not going to help anything. You can't put things back after you break them -- I've been telling you that all along. What good will it do to skip work?"
"Fuck work! There's stuff more important than fucking work and grocery money. You just sit around and stew and let all this shit build up and you're only telling me now how pissed off you are?" Lisa glared at Anne. "Okay, so I'm a shithead with money and I don't listen. You don't do much talking either, not anything to say that you're really serious. And I'm skipping work and we're going to sit down and figure this out."
"Fine. You do that," Anne said, ducking out of Lisa's arms. "I'm going for a walk."
"Nope," Lisa said, grabbing her newly redeemed coat from the mail table. "We're going for a walk. Together."
