So I check my email this afternoon and find I have a new review for Family, my Petunia!fic, which is always a nice thing. And when I look at the review, the person says, among other things, "It was well done and definitely deserved to be niffled."

And I'm sitting there saying, "Niffled? The hell?"

But I was! I got niffled at FictionAlley! Two years writing blasted fanfiction, and somebody has semi-officially recognized me!

(Minor grumble: Of course, I just had to be niffled for the fic I wrote in about 17 minutes, instead of one of the ones I spend months slaving over. Not that I think Family's a bad fic by any means -- I'm quite proud of it, actually -- but I kind of wish someone would notice, oh, say, Secrets for example. Because "Secrets" is my baby; "Family" was just a diversion.)

--------------------------------

And on a totally unrelated note, I had this utterly bizarre dream last night, in which there was a world with 12 levels that could be traveled to by means of one-way gates or some-such. Only there was no logic to the gates whatsoever. And I was a woman who got trapped into bouncing around the levels, acquiring a few more experienced traveling companions along the way.

The rules for using each gate were different, and often screwing up would get you killed. I don't have time to describe all the various things we saw, but they were really beautiful, with a pronounced Hindu influence in many cases. (And ostriches. There were a lot of ostriches and dogs. And an intense discussion of the mechanics of populating a level starting with only 10 or so people and limited resources. And a centaur with a star-speckled cloak. And a lot of silk scarves. And so on.)

And then there was the random giant book sale, in which we purchased a set of guidebooks to the levels. Of course, this being a dream, they had titles like something out of "Alice in Wonderland," crossed with the Narnia Chronicles. And there were no books 11 or 12, but there were two labeled 5 and two labeled 6, so there was in fact a book for each layer of the world.

They were really nice books, too -- leatherbound, with gilt-edged pages. And we got them dirt cheap by trading shoes from a different level of the world. (There were people who made their living by trading back and forth among the layers.)
