Andre Norton is dead.

I may not have always liked her books particularly on rereading them -- some of her stylistic choices didn't always mesh well with my ideas of life and literature -- but I never felt sorry for reading a single one. She had the touch of wonder; even when she repeated herself or was derivative, the real magic was there.

I obsessed over The Crystal Gryphon and Wraiths of Time when I was in elementary school. I still obsess a little over the Time Traders series. And her worlds, where all people are people, be they human, alien, or magical beasts, where wonder walks hand in hand with danger, where understanding and acceptance are hard-won and perhaps the greatest gifts, will always be with me.

Rest in peace.
