I'm pretty sure that Ginny and Pansy's dress robes are not described in the book. Neither is Neville's. (Then again, I was reading the Yule Ball chapter late at night and could easily have missed something.)
Draco's robe is dark and high-collared, and Harry thinks it make him look like a vicar. (I find it fascinating that Harry bothered to notice this, btw. *evil grin*) Ron's is maroon and looks like a dress, and has ragged cuffs where he used a Severing Charm on the lace. Hermione's is blue and made of 'floaty' material.
I have gone completely blank on Harry's own robe.
Anyway, the point of this is that even if the clothes aren't described in the book, they were shown in the movie, and I'm sure that scene forms the reference images for a bunch of people.
