Work kind of sucked again today.

JM had already finished most of the HJB order when I got in at 11:00am, which was good. I manned a register while BW was on break, and then vanished out back to do a transfer once AO arrived at noon. We also got in the first shipment of the annual calendar invasion, which I shelved behind the fantasy football magazines. As more come in, we'll have to do a lot of rearranging to make room, but for now these fit quite nicely. (And that shelving unit is one of the traditional 'calendar' units anyway, so this is... tactical shelving, or something. *grin*)

BW did cash up, and I kind of hovered at his shoulder, taking breaks to clean the bathroom and mop the back room. The thing about cash up is that once you have it down, it's dead simple, but it's actually a fairly complex series of steps to learn. He got mixed up at one point and would have left a drawer -$2.00, but I caught that in time and hopefully was clear in my explanation of where he'd gone wrong. Then it turned out that the deposit would be +$8.52 even after we found a -$6.00 lottery error to compensate for the +$6.00 cash from the other drawer. BW was not happy. But I told him that sometimes things are just screwed up, and if it doesn't balance out over the next couple shifts, well, it will help make up for some inexplicable shortages from other days.

The real problem with the day, however, was the Elmira order... or, more specifically, the lack of the Elmira order. It never arrived.

Around 5:00pm, I began to wonder if it had even been ordered yesterday.

By that point, ET and I had pretty much finished the evening list, so I decided to do Haddon House inventory while we waited (with diminishing hope) for the order to arrive. I dislike counting Haddon House (foreign and specialty candy, tea, energy bars, etc.) because we order it infrequently and change our stock every few months. This has caused the list to grow from 8 pages (bad enough) to 11 pages (ridiculous); things are crossed out and added in with distressing regularity. Anyway, I counted all the stock in the basement, and then added in the upstairs stock for the first 7 pages. Hopefully ET finished the other 4 pages so PM (my boss) will not be too annoyed at us tomorrow.

...

It's not as if anything has gone really dramatically wrong. It's just that nothing seems to be going unquestionably right, and the petty annoyances build on each other until I want to bite somebody's head off. And yet I can't, in all fairness, since I'm screwing up as much as everyone else!

Very frustrating.
