Thank you for the prompt! This is actually my first attempt at writing Shiara (and only my second attempt at writing Daystar), so I'm really glad to hear they came off well. :)
Roxim is reported in Searching for Dragons as one of only two people (the other being Marchak, of whom IIRC we never learn anything else) who won't flip out upon being told that Kazul is missing. He's also relatively sensible in Dealing with Dragons, but he is a bit excitable and can get carried away with ideas. So he wound up being both the obvious person to teach Shiara about diplomatic protocol, and an overenthusiastic shipper on deck. *wry*
Mendanbar has always struck me as the kind of person who would love trolling other people by telling outrageously implausible stories with just enough truth mixed in that nobody who didn't already know the real version would be able to tell which parts were blatant lies. And I figured after the mess of Calling on Dragons, a spell to summon the sword back to its owners that didn't depend on both parties being in the Forest at the time would sound very useful to everyone -- and also be just the kind of magical challenge Telemain and Morwen would adore.
