quick mini-update
Nov. 24th, 2017 09:41 pmI swapped my usual Wednesday shift for Miss Cactus's Monday shift this week, so I could drive down to NJ Wednesday morning before traffic got horrendous.
Wednesday was also my Aunt Cara's birthday, so we went out for dinner and then had ice cream and champagne at home. Mom got a bunch of the cooking done on Wednesday afternoon so Thursday was relatively low-stress (though, as always, there was a bit of not-quite-yelling as the timing on various stuff didn't mesh as smoothly as hoped). Also Dad and I watched the early football game, because the Vikings were playing Detroit and both teams are doing well this year so we hoped it would be a good game -- which, in the event, it was. :)
(My parents are from Minnesota. Insofar as Dad has football teams, which is not very, they are the Vikings and the Giants. Insofar as I have football teams, which is even less than Dad, though more than I care about any other sport, they are the same though in reversed order of interest.)
Dinner ended up being ~4:30pm, and was very tasty. :DDD I cleared a bunch of dishes and packaged all the leftovers except the turkey, which is Dad's responsibility since he carves it up for meat and for gravy-makings/dog treats. (I also kept the dog out from underfoot during the cooking, and then held her on my lap to keep her from whining forlornly as soon as I'd finished my meal, which are both more important tasks than it sounds like. *wry*)
I washed a bunch of laundry both on Wednesday and Thursday, though no linens since I have a strict rotation schedule for linens and didn't want to muck that up.
Friday morning, Cat, Susan, and I met for breakfast at Friendly's, which was nice. We have agreed to try meeting up at Christmas as well. That may take a bit of logistical jiggery-pokery, since the only time that's remotely feasible is Christmas afternoon itself, but I think we can probably combine a visit to Cat's mom's house with the annual cookie exchange we've sort of accidentally established between my parents, Mrs. M, and Rev. and Mrs. G.
And then I managed to keep Mom from loading me down with half a refrigerator's worth of leftovers (I escaped with a single cooler) and drove home to Ithaca, unpacked, and am heading off to bed because I am tired and out of spoons.
Side note: Mom asked me to bring down my two books of crossword puzzles, which ended up being the family activity since Cara is not enamored of card games and all the family board games are currently in DC in Vicky's apartment. There are worse amusements! (And it's hard to get cutthroat about crosswords -- at least when you're all working on the same one together. This is important, because my nuclear family gets super competitive about games. Not in a mean way! But if you're not into that style of play, Dad, Vicky, and I in particular are not comfortable people to play non-collaborative games with. We're aces at socially putting together jigsaw puzzles, though...)
