Good news: I got a scholarship!!!

Bad news: As part of the terms, I have to attend an orientation session in an inconvenient location at an inconvenient time with super-inconvenient bus schedules. Also they Strongly Recommend that I attend a banquet (date and location TBD, but probably also inconvenient) in order to meet my sponsor. That kind of social interaction is nail-bitingly awkward and unfun and now I'll be low-key dreading it all month.

...

Other news: This morning I got a message saying my student loan application was denied because I wasn't taking enough credits to qualify, wrote back saying (politely) WTF I am so taking enough credits, and got a quick "whoops, our bad, processing it now!" response. So that's happening.

I'm going to have to cut out of work 2.5 hours early to attend the orientation (and wait half an hour between my bus's arrival and the start of the program), and then I'm either stuck waiting a full hour afterwards to catch a bus home, or calling a taxi and paying through the nose to get back to Ithaca. *sigh* Really not an ideal way to spend my afternoon and evening.

At least the loan application is now getting processed!

Ah, the financial aid runaround begins. Swear, that is the worst run aspect of the whole bureaucratic ball of wax. Persistence is definitely a useful skill, there, as is cultivating a deliberate lack of panic response to /any/ financial-aid related communication.

Yeah, I am trying to cultivate an attitude of "seriously, this again?" to the emails and occasional hard-copy letters. At this point, assuming all the anticipated aid (grant, scholarship, loan) come through, I will probably not be paying anything out of pocket for the year; it's just a question of making sure all the other people DO come through as anticipated. *sigh*
