three unrelated things
Dec. 27th, 2018 10:19 pm1. The rental company I work for has a no-pets policy. This is partly for liability issues (damages, allergies), partly for noise issues, and mostly for general cleanliness issues. We do have a service/therapy animal exception, but you need actual doctors' notes and stuff to get that. I think we currently have two tenants with therapy animals in our Collegetown properties.
What you absolutely cannot do -- it's explicitly against the terms of the lease, and we are very up-front about this -- is just get a pet for the sake of having a pet, without going through the service/therapy animal waiver process.
Today a person came in to drop off a set of keys and informed me that they'd been cat-sitting for one of our tenants. Nobody currently has permission to have a cat. We have, in the past few months, received occasional reports of someone hearing a cat from the hall where the tenant in question lives, but all tenants on that floor told us they knew nothing about a cat.
Well, I went to investigate, and there is indeed a cat. It's a very cute and friendly cat! But totally not supposed to be there.
Anyway, I took a few photos and some video and passed it up the chain to the leasing agents, so we'll see what happens on that front.

2. When I came home after work, I decided to boil some eggs and opened the cabinet under my kitchen sink to grab some vinegar. The cabinet reeked of dead animal, and sure enough, there was another dead mouse. *sigh* While I was cleaning that up, I also noticed that some bit of too-rusted-to-identify hardware had fallen from the base of my sink (or more realistically, a pipe or drain fitting under my sink). So I cleaned that out, took some photos, and will text Landlord Dude tomorrow.
...
I feel like the mouse and the cat should be narratively related, but I guess it's just one of those days. *wry*

3. I think I may be coming down with a cold, and therefore I am going to fall directly into bed. Hopefully I will feel better in the morning. *crosses fingers*
