If they wanted to go down the path of "stealing" the apartment, why didn't they just squat? Admittedly, it depends on where you live and for the most part would showcase their 1337 hacking skills and general cluelessness.
Central London has a lot of residential buildings with very few tenants due to the insane cost and people buying them as investment properties and never using them or renting them. Squatters laws were created to stop this kind of thing.
You might be able to use the "hacking" skills to gain access to the building and if you run across other humans in the building you claim to be a housesitter or friend of the owner.
Depending on your usage needs, a hotel under a fake ID works well. That's a favourite of meth labs. You have a cleanskin who owes you money yet looks presentable rent the room using cash and a fake ID. This clears their debt yet doesn't tie them to the crime. Then you use the room for a cook and clear out before you draw attention.
The whole trying to be clever with zero research is a bit silly.
