afternoon update, Tuesday March 17
Mar. 17th, 2020 05:18 pmThings done so far today:
1. I wore green today, not because I care but because once upon a time I was pinched by an asshole for not wearing green on St. Patrick's Day and I figure a green shirt is a harmless way to ward off drunk idiots. Not that I expect to run into a lot of drunk idiots, circumstances being as they are, but I have a very comfy green shirt and some pretty earrings with green stones, so it's not exactly a hardship. *wry*
2. I worked 9am-1pm at Not the IRS, which is currently remaining open though we are trimming extraneous staff hours. My first client had a problem that shouldn't have existed except that Cornell habitually screws up tax documents, so I did all the basic data entry but rescheduled the client for an afternoon meeting with Office Uncle, who specializes in, among other things, untangling Cornell's fuck-ups. *sigh* My second client also had some Cornell-related document fuckery, but I've done that person's returns for several years now and know the likely problem sources so I was able to untangle those.
3. Bought groceries. I was unable to get everything I wanted, because there wasn't a single egg in the entire store, what even. Everything else I needed was available just fine, and I grabbed a handful of extra vegetables because why not.
4. Got an eye exam, as scheduled, because it's good to get one's eye health checked every now and then. I also ordered new glasses, because while I can still see fine with my current pair, the lenses have gotten kind of scratched over the years and the non-glare coating is starting to scrape off in one place.
I am not enamored of the current glasses frame fashion, such as it is -- the lenses are all too large and the frames are either too obtrusive or don't extend around the bottom half of the lens -- but I found a pair whose lenses are only a little bigger than my current pair, and whose frames are pretty but largely unobtrusive. I expect I will get used to them in short order, since I always think my new glasses look weird in comparison to my old ones as a natural side effect of them being, you know, new, and therefore my brain actually notices them instead of editing around them as unimportant.
5. I was going to drop by the used book store on my way home, but they're closed on account of Covid-19 so I just grabbed a sandwich and walked home directly.
Now I think I will take a nap since I'm feeling a little too brain-loggy to write and AO3 is temporarily down for maintenance/upgrades.
