re: prescription drugs -- if you don't have insurance, you can try using one of the many prescription savings sites to see if they cover your prescription and may be offering it cheaper than your insurance.
Go to a site like GoodRx or SingleCare (or both!), look up your prescription with your zip code. The prices they show using their savings card/coupon may be comparable to what you'd pay with insurance. (Full disclosure: I work for one of these companies so unfortunately, I'm learning a lot more about Rx, insurance and stuff than I'd like. Normally I wouldn't even bother plugging my current company but it may help you. :-)
