new computer, and general life update
Aug. 27th, 2007 08:53 pmToday, after eight months of procrastination, I bought a new computer. It's an HP model with a 17" widescreen monitor, and I got a printer included because even though my current printer is perfectly functional, it has the wrong sort of plug to connect to current computers. (Technological progress has a lot of dead ends, it seems.)
Of course, I won't actually get the computer and related paraphernalia until next Monday, because first it has to be shipped and then I had to find a time when both the local Best Buy people and I could be at my apartment (oh, the trials of an irregular work schedule!), but still. Computer. Bought and paid for.
YAY!!! *sparkles indiscriminately*
And yes, all you computer geeks out there should be horribly disappointed in me because I spent a lot of money, and hired the Best Buy people to set up the thing for me (mostly because I decided I didn't trust myself to get the data off my old hard drive), and I am getting a system with Windows Vista, but you know what? I don't care. This is easier for me, and it takes care of any potential warranty issues, and it's not like most of the problems with Vista will even affect me, since I don't have an internet connection (and thus need no virus protection), and since I don't ever do anything with my computer except word processing. Even the DVD-watching or music-listening are very, very sporadic pastimes.
...
In other news, yesterday JE from work came to church with me and we had brunch afterward at the Ithaca Diner. They do a very nice all-day breakfast special -- two eggs, two pieces of toast, potatoes, and tea or coffee -- for $4.00, tax included. I like that. It's good solid food at a good price, and it's not in overly huge portions; you can actually clean your plate without feeling like a pig.
