raccoons

There was a raccoon on the roof outside my window last night. I have no idea how it got there. It just walked across the little decorative shingled overhang, via the fire escape (which connects to my window and is the reason I have a stupid emergency bar on my bedroom door -- one of the downsides to renting rooms in a converted house) and stopped long enough to wake me up.

I was expecting a squirrel, you know? I get a lot of those. Or a pigeon. Then I thought maybe it was a cat, but no, definitely a raccoon tail.

I think this is actually the first time I've seen a raccoon in person, so to speak, which, now that I think of it, is very odd. They're not exactly uncommon animals, after all.

Um. In other news, more attacks from vicious evil plot bunnies, most of which unfortunately need long stories to be properly dealt with. So no new writing. Still avoiding the editing thing. I've just not been in an editing mood lately. I get so sick of my own words that the last thing I want to do is read them again, let alone tinker with them up close and personal.

The raccoon is back. We just had a staring match, me from my computer and it pressed against the window screen. It moved away when I walked closer, but slowly. It was almost as if it was saying "I'm not really afraid of you; you're just invading my personal space, and I'm so polite that I'll back off instead of getting mad."

Then it hovered off to the side and sniffed at me when I lowered the window.

I wonder if it'll be back tomorrow?
